Hi everybody. I am a first-time grower. I researched a lot and come up with a decent set up. At least in my eyes. There is always room for improvement.

I bought a 4h x 2d x 5h Grow tent, a 400 W MH and HPS light, and two small oscillating fans that I removed the stand on and am using as an intake and exhaust. The temp stays a constant 75°. My humidity is usually low at about 20 or 30%.

I don't get to spend much time with the plants so I carefully researched and made my own medium mix. I used 20% miracle grow moisture lock, 20% vermiculite, and 60% coco. I Germany all my seeds in rockwool and place them in this mix. I figure the blend of all these elements should keep me from waterlogging or drowning the roots while at the same time keeping moisture in the soil just in case I don't get to see them for a while. I also figured the soil would give them some nutrients when they are seedlings.

The first picture is of my Maui Waui strain. It is five days old.

The second is of the three plants I have after they've been transplanted. I transplanted them two days ago.

The third and last pictures are a random strain. It is a week and a half old. I was concerned at first because the lower leaves had white veins. After I transplanted them it seemed to go away for the most part. I think it just may have been the branches growing and stretching. Any ideas?

The fourth picture, which I think is the most interesting, is another random. It is two weeks old. I nutrient burnt this one when it was very young. Only had the set of those little round leave after it sprouted. It also burnt the growth tips on the newest leaves which you can see by the missing tips. They are now the bottom leaves. The weird thing is right now it sprouted 16 new leaf tips out of the top. It is also only about an inch and a half high. I think the nute burn might have stunted growth. After I flushed it, it started to grow like crazy. I was thinking about trimming those little round leaves off. There is only about a half of leaf left. The rest of the leaf is yellow and brown burnt real bad. Think it is safe or will it do more harm than good?

Any insight, tips, hints, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks for the advice. I found out the hard way with the miracle grow. I guess I'm stuck with the Coco for this grow anyway. I don't really want to try to transplant them again because the roots have probably spread. Any advice on trimming those burnt leaves?

Thank you, much appreciated.

The first two sets of leaves serve a specific short term purpose and then get shut down and discarded by the plant. Trim, don't trim, won't matter.

Thanks a lot. It just annoyed me how they look. Extra crispy. I'll snip them this weekend. On a side note, is it normal for the top to split so many times? None of the others did this. There is 16 new tips and it is very bushy. Much appreciated.

I honestly can't see your pictures well enough to know what you mean by splitting. It is absolutely normal for the number of tips on each leaf to increase as you develop more nodes, if that is what you mean.

No need for nutrients until at least 2- 3 weeks old, and only at very reduced rates (like 1/8 as directed, and increase with time) if you want to add something, add a good root stimulator, you are in the "seedling " stage (1-2 weeks long) of growth, next comes "vegation" stage. Watch for heat issues, the last picture looks like signs of

It's on the second chute up but it is in the center of the plant as if you were to stick about 16 needles straight thru the center of the plant, I will try to take better pics tonight. They should be more developed. They are growing like crazy. Really appreciate the help.

Ok. Yea I burnt one plant with nutes at the beginning do I was very careful this time. Been adding about 1/8 of what it calls for once a week. I'll will knock that off for another 2 weeks. As far as heat, it is a constant 75. I am using a 400 W MH and it is about 3 ft away. Not sure why it looks like heat stress. I think it might be the pic because they look very healthy in person. I will post better pics tonight. Thanks for the help. Always appreciated.

The pics I promised.
On the top left is a random and 2 weeks old. The middle is a 6 day old Maui Waui. The top right is a random at 11 days.

The middle left is a Maui side shot, the middle right is the 11 day random, and the bottom 2 are the 2 week old random. You can see the cluster in the middle. 4 of the 16 expanded today and 12 are still pushing their way up. This thing is exploding with growth but stayin extremely short. Could this be the stunted growth from the nute burn?

Other than that how do you guys think they look?

I think they look pretty good....for being babies.

now have patience, don't fertilize for a long time, and don't overwater and you'll be happy.

welcome to riu :)

So the 15 day old bush is pushing leaves out of the center like it's going out of style. 4 of the 16 tips flattened in to leaves 14 hrs after I left them. There are still 12 leaf tips pushing out of the center. It's not growing up towards the light but rather just pushing out leaves. Is this normal?

So I trimmed 2 plants today. The bush has 4 branches coming out at a single node, each with it's own growth tips. Is that normal? It is the 3rd node that it did this. My other 2 only have 2 branches at each node.

I will for a while now until I have to trim again. I decided to mainline my plants which is all I have done so far. The Maui still needs to grow out another node or 2 and so does the tall random. The polyploid has a while to grow before the next topping.

Good luck luck on the poly man.

I find four tops optimal.
