My First Hydro Grow

Hey, I am starting this diary on the 6th day of the process. To begin let me give you a bit of an overview. I tried with no success planting with soil, so I went to a six gallon hydroponic system. I used regular tap water, with a PH of 6.7-6.9. There are three plants, all from female seeds (I have been told) and they all have second set of leaves right now. The temp under the lights is around 85-95, which is a little high, but I have a fan to circulate air, and there is a window near by to bring fresh air into the room. The light is 400w MH right now.

I am not having any problems right now, save one: on top of the rockwool cubes i have been using, i am seeing a green discoloration, almost bright green. I have checked in the tank and their doesn't seam to be any thing wrong, so I'm not sure whats going on. Let me know of any suggestions- or any thing else I'm missing.

Its day 9 i think, and i have a problem, two of the plants are showing some yellowing and curling. I saw the temp was around 97, so i think it was a bit bright and hot, so i raised the light a few inches, hopefully the temp drops and the curling goes away.

any other reasons why this might be happening? (its near the tips)

i can't be sure but that almost looks like algae growth. it's not bad per say. The only reason people try to prevent algae growth is because algae will eat up nutes and might clog any pumps/tubing/airstones you might have in your res.

I have seen some clogging of tubes and the pump, i think ill have to clean it this weekend.

how would one go about removing algae?

(Quick Update:Temp 95 humid 23%, still curling and yellowing.)

Put little round covers over your grow medium to keep the light away from the surface, this will keep the algae from growing.

Temps are way to high, get them below 90 at least. Below 85 perferably. And humidity might be low, depends on who you talk to about this. I have mine at 30-40%.

Good luck on your grow.

Another thought, you are only veggeing now, right? Why not just buy about 4-6 CFL's and use them, way less heat, and you can work on the heat problem while they veg.

Here are the plants I grew on cfls during vegging, not the biggiest plants, but they are nice. I just spayed them with h2o.

just got the heat down to around 85- via the air conditioner. I am also going to try to fashion some sort of covers for the algea problem.

i have some algae problems as well, for about 1 and half months now. but i haven't noticed anything wrong with the plants themselves, they seem to be doing great. apparently you use food-grade hydrogen peroxide to kill the algae and it also oxygenates the roots more :blsmoke:
