you could, but moving to a bigger pot is better.
fyi, I've grown in garbage cans, dixie cups, 55 gallon barrels......and have never seen a container marijuana
plant that didnt get rootbound. thats what happens, there is no detriment like you think unless you cant supply proper
resources/aeration. my 55 gallon drums dump a huge plug of roots every time. not sure where this house plant root bound shit comes from, maybe theres something to it I dont know, or care about even.

I transplant several times per plant, I never touch the roots, always rootbound regardelss of the container size at transplant and at harvest.

So does this mean that even though I'm root bound the roots will still grow into the new larger pot and fill it if I do not touch the roots even ?

yes, do this. the new roots will grow into the new medium faster if you break up the root ball a bit.

I have a sharp sterile knife and i go around the entire ball up and down and score them about and inch apart some peeps will freak but it helps those roots start to grow into the new medium.

Gotta say also those are some healthy looking roots lol stark white what you want to see as for root bound in my opinion the plants wont get as much oxygen and have a better chance of getting rot if they are packed in a small pot and i think it will effect the plants bud production always been told big roots = big buds and plant and those my friend were close to being root bound glad your giving them more room to grow. just remember if the root doubles in size so will the plant.
