How to Take Clones of Such Small Bushy Strain

Usually when I take clones from a plant the branches of it's growth tips are several inches long, long enough to easily strip off all the lower foliage and whatnot.

But right now I am growing a Green Crack Strain that I've never seen such a bushy plant before. There is one pheno I want to preserve by taking at least a cutting or 2 before I flip the lights but their growth tips are so short my question is would they still take to rooting and be clonable if they are very short, only like 2-3 inches tops?

Attached is a pic to show what I mean, this plant just finished 5th week of veg so i don't think they are going to get much longer (until they stretch when I flip lights).

I just don't know the best way to take cuttings of this plant without butchering it.

Can't raise light any higher, its about 100cm (1 meter) above plants now, plenty high I would think) and can't move it higher if I wanted to as I said.

I thought taking cuttings after you've flipped the light is called Monster Cropping, that you'd have to revert them to veg and that monster cropped cuttings act crazy, look crazy ... are crazy?

I just want to propogate the phenotype of one of them (cuz it's grown like wild) and the cutting will remain the mother plant I take all cuttings from in the future, just figure I should take 2 or 3 to make sure one actually takes.

Sorry for all these stupid questions in these threads I've created. It's been years since I last grew and never have I grown such a weird bushy strain, transplanted into their last pots they're less then 8" tall, over 5 weeks in veg. at least the 7th or 8th node (topped once at 4th node).

I appreciate everyones help though.

Perhaps you could top it and thereby the branches below should grow up so to speak and then their should be a good chance of getting some longer clones eg.

Topping it is what got me into this mess, so to speak :D.

I am using some LST and whatnot to get the grow tips underneath more light and to grow more. I think it's just in the genetics of this strain that it just doesn't grow very tall (until flower when they stretch like CRAZY) and trying to figure out how to take best chance of living clones before I flip the lights cuz I really want this girl to live on.

By LST I mostly mean getting all the fan leaves out of the way so that the growth tips can poke through to the light (by taping the leaves to the side of the pot, sounds weird but it actually works quite well at holding branches down without even having to clamp em down with ties or anything.

Ah yeah, thats a good point @Herb & Suds . I guess I'm just so used to 'feminized' seeds being girls that I neglect to realize that stressed out girls grow balls too.

Nah GG you're not crazy...wait...come to think of it, I don't know that for sure! 8)

Back in the olden days...to sex a plant, we'd put it under 12/12 until preflowers solidly identified gender. Then right away...back into veg light schedule (24h light is best) and the plant returned to vegging post haste. No lengthy reveg because of the short time in 12/12.

Monster cropping relies on the revegging process tp promote bushiness and so for that...the magic number is 21 days in. Then back to veg...let it get all gnarly and off you go...monster cropping.

I have grown this strain and it is well worth keeping. I feel it needs more veg time, picture from that view makes it difficult to “see” the plants structure. Once mine gets to 5 node I begin the process of training and dimming/ pinching, in My experience this opens up the plant and then the stretch gives me viable areas for cuttings

It's almost impossible to get a good picture of internal structure, they're on 7th-9th node.

I topped at 3rd node, have tried to train a bit just hard to do with such big pots and such small plants, unless i'm doing something wrong training/LST.

They are in final pots now, think I will flip lights in about a week.
