what's better, 2 weeks old rain water that smells bad, or ultra hard tap water with chlorine and 600ppm?

the tap water, if you can let is sit for a few hours. unless the rain water has been aerated it has all sorts of nasty bacteria growing in it now.

a dog named chico
how about a $2 gallon of spring water

that's actually a brilliant idea
is mineral water good for them? it has minerals! and they are seedlings, just popped today.

dont use nutes yet!!!!! Stop, please tell me I saved you in time. Don't use any nutes until they start showing yellow (in about 2-3 weeks depending on soil and size of container (if its redic huge you may not need nutes for a loooooong time)). After they begin yellowing, pop in 25% strength nutes every other water. Every other time you add nues go a little bit more until your at about 75% and stay there. Unless your plants are obviously lacking something, don't go full strength like ever. The chances are not a deficiency, but an over dose. They look kinda similar.

You can buy RO water at most grocery stores and or any SuperWalmart. If you take you own 1 gallon jugs in a refill will cost you about 40 cents per gallon. This water usally has a good PH (6-7), but you will need to add cal-mag plus @ 1 tsp per gallon, as the RO filter systems strips the water of most of the trace minerals. My local Walmart has the refill machine located in the front of the store, its fast, easy and cheap. Its the only water I use.

i was asking about the minerals in the water... though they are also nutes i guess. so you say not to give them?

the tap water is 600ppm! out of the tap like that!

listen to this guy^^^^

I would just take the tap water and let it sit covered with the lid cracked up a little in the sun for at least 5 hours and most people say to let it sit at least a day. If you have a ph tester you should have a no problem adjusting the ph with a home remedy (I think vinegar).

if you aerate your rainwater it won't stink (that's from rotting debris in your collection container) that's what I'd use.

i'd use the rainwater as well as long as ur growing in soil. if ur not in soil then throw a bunch of peroxide in the rain water, just the regular store kind. depends on how much rain water you've got with the bunch part...be reasonable.

yeah throw a bunch of peroxide in there then see where your ph is :wall:

ergh, i don't live in the us, and the only water we have at the store is mineral water. with cal mag, nites and shit. pretty similar to that of the tap water, only without the chloride. i'm going to buy an RO unit very soon but I need to work out until then.

these are seedlings in coco.

i actually thought about that and put some peroxide... it still smells like moldy cheese! serious.

anyway, I guess that i'm good with the tap water for a little while, hopefully tomorrow i can get the RO.

forget the ro water if your growing in soil. Just let your tap water sit out for 24 hours before using this will bring the ph down and the chlorine will evaporate. Tap water has beneficial minerals in it. RO water takes these out. RO water will work but why pay more for something not as good as your tap at home?
