We have the highest prison population in the world by percentage of the population, over 50% are incarcerated. I seriously doubt over half of americans belong in prison.

Do you know how many are incarcerated for non violent offenses and so called crimes where there is no victim other than the person in jail. Child support - now these guys are not only not paying but costing around $45,000 a year to keep locked up. How many do you actually think are coming here just to break laws in the States? I mean percentage of incarcerated persons in prison. This system needs improvement badly.

Private prisons are bad. Virtually all politicians have the opportunity at the very least to speak out against it and other things. They do not so it is good that you do- commendable. Nobody cares about jailbirds ahh they are guilty, screw em. Thats the attitude. Now when they come back into society they cant get work hence more crime, it's a vicious cycle with super big monies involved.

I agree that private prisons are bad, and also that Obama is in bed with their operators. I fear most of Congress are as well. It's a toughie because the legislators are fairly vested. Classic conflict of interest. We don't pass Go and they collect $200. cn

there was no "black" information at all, simply the blanket sweeping statement that over 50% of the us population is in prison. there was no discussion of their blackness,, and furthermore in no way are 50% of blacks in the us behind bars. even the most ludicrously and carefully parsed phrases put the numbers at "33% of african-american males between the ages of 16 and 45 have some contact with the criminal justice system" ~ some jackhole on cnn bitching about racial profiling
i do NOT support drug imprisonment or federal drug crimes at all. the cartels dont give a shit about drugs either. if they could make their money on diamonds, they would, if they could make their money off tobacco or selling soap they would. they are a criminal enterprise with a focus on coke speed and weed, but they would just as easily run their empire on whores guns diamonds and religion as any drug.
