So any of you guys got recomendations on security camera systems really not looking to spend over 250...really only need 1 or 2 cameras put it in the living room and it would allow me to see down my hallway to the grow room doir enterance and see my front door/they would walk past it if they entered from the slider...I figure anyone breaks in ever they will end up walking around the house and would be seen on the camera strolling through the house also itd be nice if it has a dvr to record....can spend more but ill have to save to buy a more expensive one

here is a free one

grab some old smart phones with wifi but no contract .........................take the phone install a IP cameras plus some other little toys from google play .............then put the phone someplace that looks over that u want and keep the battery charger plugged in ...................if the wifi/power cuts out the battery takes over and the video is recorded to a sd card for reveiw later.............power is on and all is going u have it linked to your home network and u can look at it any time with a VPN set up

this trick works great for babysitting too my nephew thinks i am magic becuase i know when he is feeding the doggie food he should be eatting .............just take the phone turn it on add to the network and carry a tablet around with yah and u can watch it from anywhere they have wifi

if u do not have enough smart phones ..............ask your buddies if they have old ones give them 20 50 bucks for it

driod 3 works great ........takes a 16 gb sd card for back up the power on the battery after 2 years is good for about 12 hours with no charger (can replace the battery and get 36 hours) and well they have alot of different mods to the system so u can completely wipe out all that bullshit they give u and have a clean safe phone

i rigged the one i use to make the gps show me up in the rosegarden .....they can still find me off the towers ....unless i change it over to wifi and use voip system i have installed ..............and with free wifi alot places i honestly have the lowest min plan and have never once gone over ..............when i am worried i use voip to talk to ppl (little harder to tap with the amount of traffic now adays on the web system they can but they have to have it set up before hand and i really do not think they are tapping a coffee shop or mickey ds all the time) ...........if u stop and look at a payphone (if u can find it) they have a sticker on them telling u it is tapped by the police (atleast here next time i pass it i will stop take a picture )

one thing u should know be very careful about access other ppls networks ................new laws are going in effect and some places already have it.......they count it as a felony now and soon to be federal charges along with state

go in a store by a drink and ask them what the pass is for the free wifi ( u have to buy something everytime this makes it legal for u to use the system ......after that u can use untill u leave that front door after that u need to rebuy something since it is a new visit )

fuck dummy cameras. they don't scare anyone and they don't tell you what happened.

if you're really only looking for 2 cameras max just check out some bundles at sam's club or costco. you'll only need a 2 channel dvr. try to get one with as much space as you can. you will want to record in the highest resolution possible otherwise the images will be useless (the recording never looks as good as the live feed, so don't be fooled by bogus claims on dvrs or cameras of "x days of recording time" because they usually use a medium-low resolution when making these claims. hi-res images take up more space.) you want to be able to make out faces, not just blobs on necks.

for $250 you can get a bundle with 2 quality hi-res cameras and at least a 500gb hard drive (watch out for specs of "up to x MB/TB". make sure the dvr itself has a certain amount of space, not just "room for upgrade".) for that price the cameras will probably have night vision, though not the best available. even shitty night vision works fine with a small amount of supplemental light.

i prefer wired over wireless. they are a bit more of a pain in the ass to install, but there's no fighting over frequencies/jamming and they're cheaper to purchase.

sometimes the fancy brands are nothing more than the same shit with a fancy interface on the dvr. who gives a fuck if the interface looks like it's from 1992 if the technology that counts is modern? also check to see if there's an app that lets you check things out when you're not home. most newer systems have this for both iphone and andrioid but check anyway before you buy if that's important to you.

i researched the fuck out of this shit once upon a time and ended up with a decent 4 camera hi-res night vision setup with a 1 TB hard drive for about $450. the lower channel dvrs like what you're looking for are usually even nicer for the price. i basically paid for the ability to run 4 cameras and keep a few weeks of footage around at a time before it rewrites itself. 500gb should be fine for 2 cameras.

If you've got a laptop you can use HD USB cams, or with bluetooth you can use bluetooth cameras, or wanna throw down on a couple wifi IP cams, you can use I-Spy, and make the thumbnail directory a folder in your google drive. Real-time, to your phone images.
