Yeah, my cuttings are 3 -4''...Those grow bags may look square but they are still a plastic bag and when filled up they are round...I have used them and know this for a fact.

Hey, sounds like most of the things you are thinking are good. The pond liner I actually do (as well as SOG). I built boxes out of 2x4 and OSB then lined it with the pond liner. That keeps the water in (and the floor dry). Also I would think veg to 4'' to 6'' max with your height restriction...
