So Im building my bunker, you know (for when the russians attack!)

A square foot of moist earth weighs approximately 100 pounds. If you had 4' feet of earth on top of an 8' x 12' building, that would be 38,000 pounds on a prefabbed structure. Then add in the concrete that you want to add, in addition to the 38,000 pounds. How do you think that your home...

Can I run MH conversion bulbs or are regular fine?

I could now answer this myself. Hydofarm, the manufacturer of my ballasts responded to my enquiry. Their specs are such that this ballast WILL run a standard MH bulb just fine. However, it will significantly decrease it's life. Using a conversion MH bulb is therefore the recommendation...

Can I run MH conversion bulbs or are regular fine?

I was originally wanting to get a Lumatek digital ballast, but a store had an awesome deal on 600W Hydrofarms Powerhouse 600W Magnetic Ballasts. I thought that this model was a HPS and MH ballast which could run both. The box says it does not and that is a different, more expensive 1000W...

    First Post. Basement Grow question

yeah, definitely low ceilings. I'll be running 600W HPS's that are in a sealed reflector with an inline fan through a 6" duct.

    First Post. Basement Grow question

The basement is a cement floor with low ceilings... approx 6'1 to 6'3". It's a pretty decent basement as MI (or specifically U.P.) basements go.

Dark Room II 120's, Lumatek and Superponics setup?

Noise isn't really an issue for me. I like the suggestion about a filter on the intake to help with mites; good idea. Good posts... I appreciate it!

Ballasts :: Lumatek vs. Hydrofarm Powerhouse

dadio161, thanks for the reply. I went and looked at the boxes; you're right. They do NOT do Metal Halide; only HPS. I'm going ton be returning these ballasts. I was told by the salesman that these ballasts will do both as this is what we wanted.

Ballasts :: Lumatek vs. Hydrofarm Powerhouse

Is there anyone who could list the pros and cons of an Electromagnetic Ballast like the Hydrofarms Powerhouse and a digital ballast like the Lumatek? I'm wondering if I made a good choice in buying the Hydrofarms Powerhouse instead of the Lumatek.

    grow safely

I'm building up my first setup and I'm stressing about safety issues as well. I just read a post from today about a ballast catching fire. I'm trying to go with good brands to reduce this risk, but when one is dealing with so much electricity draw and heat, being careful is vital. So, I'm...

    grow tents

I went into a grow store yesterday and they had Secret Jardins there. Awesome tents. They're really high quality, very nice linings and every venting, duct, and electrical holes already there that you will ever need. Intake on the bottom, outtake up top, extra holes for light heat exhaust...

Ballasts :: Lumatek vs. Hydrofarm Powerhouse

I could see Highway 2 from my front window but I'm a ways west of Naubinway, a bit west of Escanaba.

Ballasts :: Lumatek vs. Hydrofarm Powerhouse

I am currently trying to spec out my first grow room. I read a lot of good things about Lumatek ballasts and that's what I was intent on getting. However, I stopped by a local grow store last night and they had a big sale on Hydrofarm Powerhouse Ballasts. The guy there said that they're one of...

Dark Room II 120's, Lumatek and Superponics setup?

Thanks guys. I think that's probably true; I most probably will run into issues. I was wondering about a ballpark estimate to see if I should invest what I plan to in this setup and how long I could expect to break even. cues, Thanks for the other stuff that I didn't list! slider11111...

Dark Room II 120's, Lumatek and Superponics setup?

I just started posting here and I have been pricing out my first time setup. I heard a lot of good things about the Secret Jardin Dark Room II 120's. These are 4ft by 4ft and 5 ft tall. Here's what I was thinking: Dark Room 120 (4x4) 1 Lumatek 600 ballast 600 Lumatek HPS Vortex 6"inline...

Getting a new set up. Any one have the same??

I don't know about Recipe For Success but I was pricing out Fox Farms nutrients and I think some of these are equivalents. if that's the case, you'll need a LOT more. For example, Fox Farms "Big Bloom" is probably the equivalent of B.C Bloom and I would need 1.5 gallons, or 5,600 (yes that's...

    First Post. Basement Grow question

So, if I were to buy a Dark Room II 120, which is 4 x 4 x 5ft tall and go with an Ebb and flow table, which takes up some height, where in the 2 ounce to 3 lb range do you think this enclosure would allow, provided I grow 6 plants in it? Is that spacious enough?

That's a good idea. I was just talking about the basement floor and worrying about condensation from a damp floor about 2 hours ago! Thanks

    First Post. Basement Grow question

I want something that is easily removable in case I have to move. Thats why I was thinking about tents. So, with that in mind, aside from proper ventilation and fans inside the tent, what is a necessity for keeping proper humidity? I saw in Cervantes bible that a basement is supposedly a very...

    First Post. Basement Grow question

At the moment, I'm quite overwhelmed with all of the choices that I have. I was looking at the Trinity 2.0 Grow box but it seems very expensive. I am now looking at a tent setup and I'm liking the DarkRoomII Twin from Secret jar din. If I use a tent like that, will humidity be a big...
