If I hung a plant for 2 weeks the shit would crumble to powder lol. I don't hang whole plants though..
Anybody use a food dehydrator for mmj?

I usually trim a branch at a time right at harvest, if I dried for two weeks with that method I would envision the same thing. I am going to try hanging at least one of my four that will be coming down shortly without doing any trimming at all just to see if I can notice any difference between the two. Not looking forward to the trimming after the dry, I can tell you that right now.

And the trimming is surprisingly not bad at all. Just make sure to wait until those larger sugar leaves are thoroughly dry before starting.
You'll enjoy that "harvesting" consists all of about 1 minute.

Not if you dry the whole plant hanging at once.
That way it can easily take 2 weeks to dry the bud properly (if you got decent standard conditions and with average variables).
Nobody said you should dry single calyxes for 2 weeks.
But drying can (and should) take anywhere from a week to two weeks if done under proper conditions (depending on method).

I've always cut at the base and hung my plants whole in a dark cool place. Little heat. Usually just oscillating fans. They're ready to TRIM when the thinner branches snap clean. (Usually 6-9 days)
This is when pretty much all the thc in the stalk and branches has drained to the buds.
Cut the branches from the stalk, trim the bud while still on the branch and I put these branches on a screen for about 2-3 more days in a dark cool place. Little heat.
They'll be ready to begin curing after this point. (keep your trimmings, branches, and stalks for hash and oil)
Then pack my mason jars to the top (But not tightly) with bud (off the branches now), opening them once a day for about 20 mins each.
Store these in a dark place as well. Do this for as long as you feel is needed. But takes at least about a week to have any effect on taste and harshness.
I used to go for about a month, but have reduced that to about two - two and a half weeks.
Yes the light or rather lack of light is important in these steps as the light actually slowly degrades the THC content of dead (Drying) plants.

I really don't think tch drains into the buds from the stems, but I've heard that tale before.

The bud I dried for 3 days as a tester was tasty as hell and not one bit of harshness at all... Granted it will be even better after a cure, but just sayin, it wasn't harsh, smelled stank as shit... not sure what that means but..
I've never had harsh buds after hanging for a week.. My shit doesn't even usually last long enough to be "properly" cured.. It's always excellent when it hits the rolling papers.
I've had harsh weed and I do know how to tell the difference, if you was going to imply that.

I just did that with 2 plants. Not much experience to speak from but the bud stayed tighter and harder. I trimmed both at 4 days. Hanging in a pantry with veggies stored. Spuds, onions, squash. Then back to hang whole a few more days before being trimmed to individual branches and going into jars. Both dried great, bud firm and taste like heaven. A Blue Widow and a Kandy Kush. I think it was worth the effort of trimming dried which really is not that much more work it turns out. Sharpest of instruments is needed though.

I perused the mj grow books at Barnes & Noble yesterday and one had a break down of curing with a dehydrator. They said the result was ''OK"
I do not own an actual food dehydrator which is low and slow. My toaster oven has a dehydrate setting, but the temp is too high, so I cracked the door to bring it within range, but it still dried way too quickly

You said a food dehydrator. You thought a toaster oven with the door cracked would be a decent alternative to an already very poor alternative to hang drying?
A dehydrator will work, I've tried quick drying for testing buds, but as a whole, it's a bad idea. You can test it if you don't want to take advice, but you're going to run into the obvious. Earthy smelling, weird tasting, harsh on the throat weed that could have been so much nicer. The only time it doesn't matter is if you want to convert your plant to butter or oils. Just hang those babies, even if the conditions are far from optimal.
