Can I use this HPS bulb with this hanging socket? Electricians please HELP

Hello everyone,

Can someone PLEASE tell me if I can use this bulb with this hanging socket? I'm the most not-electrical knowing person in the world so any info or advice will be VERY much appreciated.

You need a ballast...

The amazon description is unreliable. They don't mention the exact kind of socket they are selling, therefore don't buy it. Check out the hardware store, they should have sockets for HPS no problem. I know big CFLs use a larger socket than a regular CFL, but don't waste your time trying to save a few pennies. Try to get it as a kit, man. Bulb, Ballast, Hood with socket

Thanks for the replies everyone. Problem is though I don't want to have another ballast, my space is limited as is and adding another one would just make space even more tight, not to mention with a hood and everything. Isn't there a way to have a HPS without a ballast or what could be a good supplement to use without having to get a ballast but that would actually make a difference (if there's any)? I want to be able to add at least another 100W to my grow space but without having to get a ballast, I simply do not have the space. Any suggestions?. Thanks everyone for your time to answer.

No, you have to have a ballast, that's why i told you you needed a ballast.If space is the issue, then simply get rid of the 250w you currently having and buy something more powerful.

make sure you get a ballast or u will get fried

Got it! Bought the Sun System 150W. This is perfect because the ballast is inside the actual fixture and the size is perfect for a small space as a supplement to the main light. Dimensions of the entire fixture is only 15''x4.5''x7.75''! Great recommendation, thank you very much. Price perfect for the purpose; $60 (without shipping).
