CBN (Crusade for Blissful Narcosis) experiment

I discovered a swag of old/aged gear recently whilst cleaning-out a corner of the shed. Some of it over 4 years old, 'though still at a good moisture level & no smell of ammonia at all (I obviously did my dry/cure/packaging well back then, as I do now).

Since I no longer smoke (& suffering from insomnia), I've decided to turn it into caps of something that Keats described:

"My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk"

240g (a bit over 1/2 a lb)

Decarbed & infused in 1.8Kg of virgin coconut oil, with about 600ml of liquid coconut oil to cover the lot & a couple of heaped tablespoons of lecethin granules. Wizzed-up with a stick blender.

Into the Instant pot (my rice cooker insert 'just happens to be a perferct fit) for a nice, long, slow infusion.

Once strained & jarred-up, this lot will be incrementally packaged into 00-size capsules.

1/2 a lb may seem a lot for a simple experiment, but I can always cut the proceeds down to lower-strength if I find I've gone a bit too far towards the edge of the abyss.....:o

How long did you cook it in your instant pot and at what pressure? I found that one hour cooking in an instant pot at high pressure and letting the pressure dissipate over time gave me a very sleepy concoction. I'm under the impression that longer cooking times will yield more cbn but I've no way to test it. Like you I used coconut oil. I didn't bother with decarb figuring that one hour at high pressure would do the decade while infusing the oil. 240g of herb done this way would keep me going for a looong time. How were your results?

I did the decarb in the instant pot inside submerged & loosely-sealed glass jars on "Slow Cook-High", which is around 100C once everything was up to temperature. No pressure involved. About an hour.

The infusion was done on "Slow Cook-Low" overnight (about 80C) - I'm kinda "laissez-fair" with some of this stuff.....:) Then the whole lot was strained & packaged.

I ended-up with 2 x large & 1 x smaller jar of proceeds:

To the dregs in the small jar, I added 2 x existing volume to create a 1/3-strength mix (just in case!!) to experiment-with (hence the label) before it cooled & solidified. Yet to be packaged into caps & sampled..... I'm sure I'll be able to do that & report my findings, but there's always the problem of subjectivity......

I had an interesting & enlightening PM conversation with @cannabineer regarding best-practice with this stuff, but then managed to get banned under a different guise & can no longer access that dialogue.

Once I've packaged the 1/3 strength ones & given them a trial, I'll report-back.

THC + 1.1 equiv ceric sulfate = CBN in high yield.
Oh, you're such a fucking tease!!!!

Is this achieveable without resorting to laboratory conditions & equipment, or should I just slink-away to my kitchen & just rustle-up the equivalent of scrambled eggs on toast?

Nothing wrong with eggs on toast

I'm far from an credible edible guru but one hour decarb at 100c seems a bit short. I'm really curious about your results good or bad.

The gear was already several years old, so the conversion from THC to CBN was probably already well advanced. I left the jars out in the heat & sunlight (ermmm...... it's pretty fucking hot here in Aus. right now!) for a couple of days just to be sure.

The decarb was probably just the "coup de gras" & 100C would be plentiful according to someone I referenced earlier that has far more knowledge & experience than me.

When I get around to it, I'll package-up some caps & give some feedback on a single dose.

Right now, it's about 37C, so I'm going to go peel-off my sweaty work clothes, have a cold shower & stand naked outside. :D
