Germinating seeds

Whether a seed is in between paper towels, or in moist soil\potting mix, if it was a healthy seed it'll sprout. In media it doesn't have to be fussed with, it can get light immediately after it sprouts, the radicle can immediately grow down into the media; the roots can immediately form symbiotic relationships with microbes and the plant even has access to nutrients for more prolific growth.

These were direct to mix, 2 weeks old (Krystalica and a couple Kerala x Skunk) before transplant. This is the smallest container I would ever use (for Cannabis seeds), and I wouldn't advise using an array like I did. I wouldn't typically either they crowd and need to be transplanted. Even 8 oz red cups I find to be a bit too small despite that they are tall enough. I prefer 4 inch square containers or larger.

Nah man. Sometimes I feel bad. People tell me I come off like a dick alot. Oh well.

I retract my retracted statement. It is fucking dumb. I'd put the seed in my asshole before directly into soil.
Oh grow up.

...kids.

WRONG. Direct into soil is just plan stupid. Every seed of mine starts in shot glass of tap water overnight. Then into moist paper towel in zip lock half open. If good seeds they pop everytime.

I literally just pulled a fresh seed off pollinated plant and popped the seed in 2 days.
is that how nature does it ?

Cool story. These were paper towel and solo cups to start.

Now in 3 gallon airpots which I finish in.

If done correctly I get something like this.

Sorry, sorry. Not just the pictures really, they are fine, but that is all... and coupled with your attitude. Looks like another mediocre home grow to me (and look at the scrawny little leaves on those seedlings!).

But you wanna be "the man" right? You couldn't even put a seed up your ass, not without pulling your head out of it first.

Mad love in this thread. It's germinating, folks.

Obviously, soil works. Soaking in a cup of water for 48 hours before putting into paper towel and ziplock works. Straight into ziplock/paper towel works. Wet paper towel by itself works, but you have to keep wetting it.

As far as the original poster's question... Sometimes, I have a 1/2 inch root after 48 hours in water. Usually, it take 4-5 days (48 in water, another 48 or so in towel/bag). Be patient. You can see the bean start to split.

In my opinion, from experience, if the bean is viable it will sprout in just about anything so, I go straight into soil. If you have a bagseed or something that's hard, but not too dark and veined, or an older seed, a little help from soaking in H2O and then putting into paper towel/ziplock will give you a bit better shot at germination. The air in the bag is enough for the seed and if the bean hasn't popped in 5-7 days, it probably won't no matter what the medium. I've never had problems with seeds of any kind (and I grow a lot of different stuff) in ziplock baggies but, they're never in them for more than 3-5 days. Your method should be situational. If your buying viable seeds from a vendor, straight into soil is fine. If you caught a bagseed that looks a little meh, you may want to soak it/paper towel/baggie it.

Just my 2 cents =).

paper towels work, but everybody who does it has fucked up several seeds doing it, they all say it just wasnt a viable seed but in realith they fucked it up. The moist paper towel does what? It provides exactly the same thing that moist soil/rockwool does, warmth and moisture, if the seed will crack in a cup of water or a moist paper towel, it will crack in soil/rockwool. The only difference is you dont touch it and risk fucking it up. Do a search and see what threads have been posted more, "trouble with the paper towel method", or "seeds wont crack in soil/rockwool". My seeds pop nearly 100% of the time planted directly, covered, and placed on my water heater, green leaves above the soil/rockwool within 3 days, virtually fool proof

Oh, so why don't you just shut the fuck up unless you actually care to explain how direct to soil\soil-less mix is "bunk advice", why do virtually all of my seeds started this way actually germinate and turn into healthy plants. What about paper towels makes them magical pot seed starting material? What does a paper towel have that a sphagnum/coir-based potting mix doesn't?

If you cannot answer any one of those question, and really answer them not just bullshit them like you apparently do everything else: then shut the fuck up.

Or don't. Whatever. Say some other unsubstantiated bullshit. Who the hell cares?
