Hempy Bucket Grow Question

I'm growing 6 seedlings right now in rockwool that I soaked in distilled water for 30 minutes each before putting in germinated seeds. My plan is to pick the 2 best (decision will most likely be heavily biased because I happened to get 2 seeds out of the last 7 months from my bags of doughty and the other 4 are from a friends schwag) and transfer them to my buckets. I have a stealth dresser grow going on for this, so I really only have space for 2 plants that I will let grow to about 18" before flowering.

Anyway, my question is when to transfer. I have 4" rockwool cubes, kind of big to me. My plan from my research on hempy bucket was to let them grow in the rockwool until the roots are coming out of the bottom and grown all the way into the rockwool. I have helped do soil transfers from party cups before so I know when the root system looks like when you pull that chunk out. Being that I have kind of big rockwool cubes (only size my local hydro store had), I'm not sure if they will last long enough for that with just the water that is soaked into the cubes. Also I wasn't planning on adding my nutes at least until the tranfer, maybe until a week after. Is that OK, or should I add the nutes at the transfer.

I guess my real question is how long will my seedlings last in rockwool with just water, before I need to add nutes? I didn't want to add nutes until I transfer and get them in their final growing place.

Here are some pics I just took. The two cubes together are the good seeds.

supposed to wait a couple weeks after your first two leaves are there.your right about waiting until transplant to begin nutes. I did. you should be good. transplant after couple weeks of sprouting to allow for good root developement.

thats good. I use only guano. one for vegg, one for bloom. hydrogrower of 20 years told me to use these so i dunno but i heard good things bout nova. i would wait till transplant then when soil is dry or needs feeding, feed em. alternate water and nutes every other feeding.

I'm going hempy bucket, when and how much to feed is already taken care of for me basically with the system. I'll look more into organic stuff in the future. But with hempy buckets the medium I'm using is just 100% perlite.

Yeah, perlite and peat in certain percentages, I think 1 perlite to 4 peat, is the Sunshine #4 Mix. I was going to use that as my medium until I found the hempy bucket hydro method.

usingt rockwool iis tricky with hempy buckets (especially the bigger ones) cause they retain a lot more water than perlite. so even if your res in your bucket is low or gone yuou still might not need to water them yet

What would be the best way to start seedlings for hempy if not rockwool? Ive read a lot of bad things about starting seedlings immediately in the perlite, and I know it'd be better to do clones for hempy, but not currently situated for that. Also, can I avoid the over watering if I just pour the water along the side of my bucket and have it miss the rockwool in the center and go straight to them res in the bottom?

Tark, looks like I found you again. I use 4:1 ratio of perlite and vermiculite both are easy to pick up at the garden center and are cheap. If you live in a house you can work what is in the bucket into the garden and it will love you for it. If you use the smaller RW cubes the watering is not an issue. If you go solo cup, as I noted in the other entry, I have watered both into the cup and outside the cup, away from the rockwool and there was no difference. I use a very simple nute system GH maxigrow and maxibloom, I have them mixed to full strength per the label when they are ready for it. I water every day, your needs may vary, and I use the full nutes every time. No burn, it's the beauty of hempy. Good luck.

Hehe, yeah I posted the same thread into a few different forums after not getting any responses several times. Ill be looking into advantages and disadvantages of adding vermiculite for my next grow I think. So far it seems to just be a matter of taste. Ill be very careful with my nutes though. I doubt Ill ever go above 1000 PPM for this grow. The powers that be have scared the crap out of me as far as nuteburn goes lol. My bottle says 1750 for one of them as 'max strength for rapidly growing plants'. But I'll be cautious until I have a few more grows under my belt. Interesting that you cant burn with hempy though. Ill probably be using my nutes every watering as well though, and flush once a week
