How can I shatter my broken off and stuck downtube without breaking the rest of the bong?

Hey everyone,

I have a Roor rasta beaker that has been sitting in the closet for years after getting knocked over and breaking off the end of the downtube that is outside of the bong. The rest of the downtube is stuck in the bong. I would like to use this bong again, how can I shatter the downtube so I can get a new one without breaking the rest of the bong?

Carefully, with a punch and a small hammer.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to start trying some of these out. It was like 7 years ago or so that it got broken. I may try epoxying something in there to try to pull it out.

If you can heat it up and work it free with a pair of pliers that would be cool. Always pull out and wiggle instead of twisting. If you break it off inside of the down stem use a Sharpie. Stick it inside and twist back and forth. It will grind and chip the glass tiny piece by tiny piece. A shard here and there if you're lucky. After a frustratingly long effort you will finally have your bong back. It sucks, but it works.

Is the downstem welded/fixed as part of the bong or just stuck with resin? If its just stuck try warming it a little and maybe even soak in some orange oil like Goo Gone. It might be enough to losen it with a pair of needle nose so you can twist it out.

I had to do this with my fab egg last week. The bowl was stuck, and heating up the resin didn't work. I left it soaking in vegetable oil on both sides overnight and then worked it free. It was sketchy, but I got it out. I read that water or liquid resin can cause a super strong suction sometimes. I change my water all of the time, so a little might have been in the stem.

Yeah, I can see that happening with too much heat. The glass would expand a little. Maybe just the oil and a couple tools...and lots of patience.
Those Roors are nice. I wouldnt want to lose one if I could help it.
Good job on the fab egg. I need one of those.

I have tried tapping around it with a wooden spoon a bunch, needlenose pliers with heatshrink on the jaws, running it under hot water for 5 minutes and then tapping, breaking the glass by twisting a sharpie just ate away half the plastic on my sharpie, running 91% iso through it and picking at the seam with a toothpick followed by more tapping.

I am going jbweld a sharpie in there and see if I can pull it out along with more tapping. I called my local headshop their only tip was soaking it in vegetable oil but I'm going to try a jbwelded sharpie and add vegetable oil after it dries :)

Alright everyone, I tried one more thing... and it worked! I read and saw where some people were sticking a wooden spoon handle or wooden dowel down into the downstem and working it back and forth to break the seal. I couldn't find a wooden spoon with a cylindrical handle so I grabbed a pack of assorted dowels in the crafts section for $2. It came out with zero effort this way!! bongsmilie

I'll clean the bong and get a new downstem from the local head shop. I'll post a picture her all fixed up hopefully tomorrow. She is a Roor Little Sista Ice. I also got my Herbalaire vape out of the closet and cleaned up so I can auto-vape-bong if I want.
