How exactly does it Work. DWC?

Hello. I am currently thinking about building a water culture system to grow about 4-5 plants in. I plan on using a common design I've found on the net using a fish tank(10 gallons) a pump, bubble stone, styrofoam, some gravel and some posterboard.

I understand how to build this but I have never ventured into hydro before so not exactly sure how this works.

This is my impression of this device. Once built, my plants will be in cups or whatnot placed in the styrofoam with water and nutrient solution. I'll have the pump turned on creating the bubbles which will provide oxygen to the roots? My question is here...will I have any problems controlling root rot if my plants' roots' are in constant contact with water/solution or will the oxygen from the bubbles prevent this?

And will the water/solution just evaporate after a while requiring a re fill?..As you may be able to tell I am quite new at this but if someone can explain this to me I'd be grateful.:peace:

The system you are describing works well for lettuce but not for weed. Search on bubble buckets and you will find the best DWC growing system for weed.

Good luck and happy research!

you would have some decent plants dude. If you can bury a plants roots in dirt and grow sum sick plants, water is not a problem. However the water should be moving at all times, which they will with the bubbles, and you're providing good oxygen. You will have to change the water about once a week and yes, you will have to add water in between those changes. Youll notice the water disappearing faster when the plants have big roots, they really drink a lot. Thats y i do aeroponics. Roots are suspended in air and get sprayed 15 minutes every hour. That gives them plenty of oxygen time and a little water time. Uses less water, develops thirsty huge roots and grows beautiful. But yeah dude go for it just make sure your ph is rite and dont overfeed nutrients it could become a disaster. being on the safe side will NEVER kill your plants. Good luck

All right...I have decided to do this...however I am not going to use a fish tank...I have some 10 or 15 gallon platic totes that I think will work just fine from what I have seen. What do you think of maybe adding a few tsp of peroxide to the water to up the oxygen content? Is this okay to do...I know that that would require me to have adjust the ph right?

On another note. I will have 4 to 5 plants...havent decided how many to do. prolly just 4. 2 hawaiian skunk and 2 unknown dank. I will be using a 400 watt mh bulb for veg and a 400 watt hps bulb for flowering...

Any more suggestions:bigjoint:?
