Oh...one more little benefit is that you can take res samples from the tray during a flood. Saves lots of bending over...

Exactly this myke. You need to read read read. Really if you want to learn the most that I can teach you read my whole tread start to finish. There are so many awesome growers that have shared knowledge on my thread and you can see much of my learning process with growing both in soil and hydro. Read the the "Al B. Fuct" thread I mentioned from beginning I end even if it's 500pages. It's massive amounts of info being freely shared with you. Just waiting for you to read it.
Did about 50 pages on th al b fuct one, gave up.Most just like yours get plugged up with jibberjabber.I have a busy life.
The time you took to type this you could have answered my questions. This is a forum to ask questions is it not?

The roots go to where the water is. Sometimes...with fresh clones I'd cram a 1/2" hose down into the E&F fitting and use that hose to top water. Maybe a few days till roots grow. My pots were about 6" tall and would get flooded about halfway. The system works great...

Thank you.

Renfro, your tables/trays where flood and drain?
yes. 4x8. Each 4x8 had a 200 gallon reservoir capacity. I built my reservoir out of 2x12 lumber and pond liner and was able to set the try on top of that so it was very low preserving as much of my room height for plants.

thank you,
Im in rdwc now,im trying to reduce the amount of water .Ea room now is about 100 litres.my idea of a table say 12 or so pots , each fed with its own hose wouldnt need neer the amount my pails and res take now.
Thanks,

Cant go wrong with F&D in small pots of medium if you want to be able to move plants and harvest in stages. The roots will not tangle together. They may pop out of the pots a little but will not create a root mat unless you cover the tray and block the light. Simple, easy and works.

Pot inside pot just creates more complexity for no benefit imo.

Well FWIW I did run that reservoir using Lucas formula for the whole run only topping off with plain RO water and keeping the PPM at 1000 with a tiny nutrient add daily, turned out to be about 15mL micro and 30 ml bloom daily per light and about 5 gallons daily per light.

Myke,
You're gonna lose available headroom by putting them up on a table. So be sure to take a tape measure and plan carefully. Trays are more manageable with smaller plants. IMHO

Ok so I have a plan now, thanks.
So I have some clones that are ready. I have a small tray to start and can rig up a small flood and drain. Is my 15 min timer ok?
5 -7 floods a day total? Say 5 during light on 2 at night?

Sorry you feel that learning more then just the answer to each question is to much bother. All your questions have been answered so far. I've been gladly answering them one after another as have others.

My suggestion to read more is to give you the best learning experience on a new growing style for you. Just asking us questions and getting individual answers will only teach you so much. Were as spending time researching will really teach you about the process and growing in general.

I don't flood at all during lights out. And 4-6 times during lights on. Your timer is fine.

Yes. Looking forward to not have to get on my knees to manage the rdwc. Will have to find a way to get my light closer to the ceiling.
Thanks.

Good starting point. Ensure your res has enough volume so that the water level stays over your pump during your 15 minute flood.
