How to prevent cutworms?

Hi,I just moved to a completely different area of the u.s. and the budworms here are very bad. i was wondering if anyone knows how to prevent them or what causes them?

i know Bacillus Thuringienesis kills them, but wouldn't it be overkill to prevent with that? hmm then if it's moth larvae then i can prevent em with moth balls. thanks

I had them little shits on one of my outdoor plants i moved inside, the plant was only 3ft but i just killed everyone i could see and i didn't see anymore.Yeah i did the smash and spray and it took a few hours.

"Caterpillar Pillar" is a retail BT product.

You can also use diatomaceous earth powder to keep caterpillars from climbing up the stalk and getting to the buds.
