hps distance from plants

i am flowering two ice plants with limited head room, they are 14 inches tall and 10 -11 inches away from the 400 watter hps bad boy. Is this sufficient distance especially when they are still growing, even though they seem to be doing pretty good, last nite period it grew over an inch, and in the daytime they shoot up.
What is the minimum distance i can keep my plants from the light without burning them.
one of the plants leaves has slight curling near the top of the plant. Is this due to heat stress. Usually it stays under 30 in there, but im sure that 35 c is absolutely fine as it is that hot on holiday in spain, and plants grow there in 40 degree weather.

Hey buddy! I'd like to ask you, do you use a glass shield in that light? If so, than that will allow you to get a little closer than if you don't have one.
Also do you have any sort of cooling on the light? If so, than that will allow you to get a little closer than if you don't. With a really good cooling system you can get within 8" on the plant.
You should probably stay at about 12" otherwise.
Peace

if you've had that setup for a few days without burning them you should be OK as long as the temp doesn't skyrocket. if you can put your hand under the light at leaf-top level and not feel like your hand is burning is a good measure.

of course, as they are growing each day you will have to move the light accordingly :-)

i have no cooling system on the light and they are 11 inches away. They seem to be doing great, but any problems ill make sure ill post em.
But thanks for thwe info. I might have to make a glass shield myself lol.

I have a 6 Afghans less than 10 inches from my 400 watt HPS. I use a digital thermometer at top of the plants to keep the temp below 32C. You will have to use your judgement since you know the details. I would guess you don't have enough headroom because most strains at least double in height during flowering.

Good luck!

I've flowered 5 plants under a 400 so I bet it will do six just as easy. I used 200w of floro's for side lighting as well though!
