Just clipped a sample ---> Dissapointed???

Hello All,

So my plant is 8 1/2 weeks into flowering, crystals have covered the tops of each bud, and about 60% of the hairs have become orange or red. Also, I used my microscope to check trichomes...5% clear, 90% cloudy, 5% amber. So I thought now would be a good time to clip a sample to test if the high is satisfying. I used the toaster oven method to quick dry by placing the cut up bud on a tray and laying it on TOP of the oven. About 45 minutes later the bud was dry to the touch and the stem could bend just enough without snapping.

Smoke Report:
Completely disappointed..Packed a full bowl and smoked with one friend. I was high for about 20 min and it was definitely a mild high. I understand that quick drying does reduce its strength a little but its not like i dried it in a microwave or anything really quick. Does this mean I still have a couple weeks or did I just waste the last three months growing shit?

Post a pic of your plant. Your drying method without a doubt hurt your flower's potential and in no way is that indicative of your future harvest.

I have been disapointed everytime i smoked a fresh bud off of one of my plants. I dont think there is any substitute for a proper cure. Your buds will probably be fine once dried and cured properly.

From what you said it sounds like they are done. Just because your quick dry sample taste like shit doesnt mean your crop will. You need to look into the cureing and drying process.

Unfortunately my camera is down for the count right now and my cell phone can't zoom worth a shit. So based on the info I have given you...Flowering time, pistil color, trichome color...Do you think I have much longer? Thanks for the quick reply

During the curing process is when THC really becomes physcoactive. Cure, cure, cure.. This also gives the bud a chance to fully dry and brings out the nose and taste as well..

Thanks Mrboots and Dirtfree. Glad to know that I haven't wasted my time. I also thought it was ready to chop based on what I can see. Maybe I'll give her a couple more days, chop, dry, and cure.

If it were he, I'd chop now, but that's a preference of mine.

I like to start my flush when i see amber trichs forming. Another week of flushing and it will be a lil less than 50/50 amber and cloudy. A nice head high!

Spots or knife hits always get you f*ckered up. I don't think it matters what kinda weed it is. Obviously the better the weed the better the high but if you're doing spots, you're gonna be LIT :o

what are spots?
You heat up a couple of knives on a stove, and (carefully) put some cannabis between the knives once they have heated up (a lot of people heat up one knife then put the weed on the other, cooler knife), anyway once you got the cannabis on the knife you touch them together and it combusts the plant matter and you inhale the smoke through a funnel of some kind.

It works pretty good with BHO, but it isn't my favorite method.

No matter what you do though if you take an early cutting it won't be anywhere near as good as the final, cured product. The curing process helps break down inactive cannabinoids into active ones which greatly increases potency. Even putting a fresh cutting in a vaporizer at exactly 220 degrees C doesn't have the same effects as the cured buds from the same plant and vaporized at the same temp.

Pretty much. It's more or less a poor man's vaporizer. You just roll up a tiny ball of weed, say a little under a single hit out of a pipe, heat up some knives and have someone else 'spot you' by pressing the ball between the knives while you inhale the smoke.
