Just buy a black one.
or
Black Cloth/Gaffa tape.
or
Silver reflective ducting tape

Yes why would you buy a white one knowing it is not right for the job. I mean there is this thing, called the internets where you can purchase almost anything you need including Black buckets and lids.

no hydro store in town all hardware stores and farm store had only white and all amazon had was 15$ ones that didnt even come with the lid

I used black/white poly and taped it, but this was because I was using free buckets. I did one it worked, I just didnt like how it looked to i trashed it and bought 8 dollar buckets with lids. Sucks, but oh well.

Ya good idea, It can be done for sure. I am saying why, when cheapish black ones are so readily available or Lowes grey. My time is worth more then spending time light proofing a bucket when I can buy one with no maintenance and I am sure its light proof.

I have used the HD buckets too with no modification entire flower with no problems but for peace of mind I went all black. You know the saying.. Once you go...

There are those that find problems and there are those that find solutions, which one do you want to be?

Get a fine grit sandpaper, anything that just scuffs the shininess of the surface. Scuff the bucket with the sp, and use a wet cloth to wipe the dust off. Use a spray paint for plastics, Krylon, whatever, and spray it black.

I only had a HD in my town as well, so I got the white buckets (3.5g), b/c I run DWC in a DR60. This simple paint job has lasted fine, with hardly any white showing through after 3 grows. Good Luck!

Put it in two black trash bags. Roll the bags under the top and duct tap in place. Fold the bags around the bucket and duct tape for neatness. Put holes or slices on and near the bottom if you need drainage.

The question is sooo simple its painful. Its like asking, 'How do I stop light coming in through a window?'.

If someone can't figure out simple stuff like this by themselves they must have a really strange existence. IMO Providing solutions just encourages lazy thinking.

you know what? It ain't even got to be a dark color. It's better if it is but if all you have is white and you can't think of any way to stop the light from getting in so what I bet you still get some buds. We all make this a lot harder than it is.

your making it way harder than it is... wrap em in tin foil. first buckets i got were white (to match the room) but realized that sucked and still couldnt find black ones so got 5 white ones too.. ugh. next day i saw black ones at the hydro store... for cheaper.. fuck. but lining with tin foil is super easy just use duct tape. looks alright too. do the lids also.

I am buzzing at the moment, but screw the white bucket. Line the inside with black garbage bags, sliced for drainage, fill with soil and screw the bucket color. It could even be clear this way if that is all you got.
