Yes you can recondition them by putting them in the dryer for short intervals. 10 - 15 minutes, you don't want to cook it on high heat for an hour. You are just drying it out, humidity kills them. I saw a graph somewhere and the curve is crazy once rh starts going up/efficiency goes down.
I owned two and they just got me through veg and to the start of flower. Then I had to drive 1.5 hours just to spend 7 minutes and $400 getting carbon filters then drove 1.5 hours back.
No smell at all, growing Rez Diesel so...
I really hate the odor soks, the only thing good was the tape that came with them. It's cool Black on Black with Chinese characters.
Good luck on getting a little more life out of them. Just take them down and I always took the mesh insert out and then tossed them in the dryer. You're just buying a little time though, start planning on the replacement.
I tried to save a few bucks and ended up getting carbon filters anyway.
