Ok so i went and spent 250 on a new portable ac unit. She is 9000 btu and supplies solely a 4x4 room with 2x 600 watt lights. Its hot in there. My question is, when i set this up, the way it is now, i have the ac vent hooked into the side wall in my room and the actual unit sits outside the room. The bedroom that the grow room is in gets super hot, like 90+ all day, so the return air being sucked into the return on the ac unit is hot, is this causing my ac to not be able to work as good as it should. I mean do i need to put the ac in the room? I know with all that air conditioning power, the grow room should stay in the 70's all day.right????????? Someone help me so i can do what i need to do................oh by the way, my temps stay around 80-85 fahrenheit, isnt that a little high for optimal conditions without co2

lol, should not the return air be cool?

IDK, want to buy one too. I always thought in the room. Why not? Is their fumes or something? How come the return air is not cool? Is this only when start up? Do you vent outside?

Just some helpful questions I hope.

I can't picture your setup. How does the cool air get into the grow room? My a/c sits in the room, the intake and cool air vents are on the front, the hot air exhaust goes out through the wall.

if the fresh air intake is in the room where the ac is venting its exhaust then you have a closed system. the ac absorbs the heat into the coolant, then runs the coolant through a radiator to dissipate the heat. in a window unit that radiator is in the back of the unit, which has to be in a place completely seperate from you air intake, preferably outside.

I have a bedroom thats 10x15. Ok inside this bedroom is 2 4x4 rooms seperate. 1 has a window ac and is ok. The other is the 1 in question here. I have 1 12"x12" hole cut out of the poly. Grow room and the portable ac is on the outside of the grow room sitting in the bedroom floor right outside the grow room. My question is, the actual bedroom is really hot bcause it has no air conditioning, so the air intake on the ac is getting that hot bedroom air, is this causing my ac to run inefficiently? The exhaust on the portable ac is exhausted out of the ceiling and out of the house?

probly a combination of the hot intake and ducted exhaust...the coil (radiator) in the back of the AC needs A LOT of air flowing over it...its likely, if you duct runs very far, that you are dramatically cutting the efficiency of the unit. Could you possibly run a duct thru the other grow room and out the window that A/C is in?

Your so right and i didnt think of that, my exhaust runs at least 20 foot past the exhaust pipe they sent with the ac, good thinking, ++++ for you buddy

ok so i put the ac inside the room, temps down to below 80 now, so i guess it works with the shorter exhaust hose but now the exhaust is just sitting in the bedroom and the bedroom is hot as faazzuuccckkkk. dont got anywhere for it to go?

You said the bedroom contained two 4x4 rooms and the other room had a window a/c...can you duct the a/c exhaust thru the other 4x4 room and out the window that a/c is in? then your duct shouldn't be that long

Wasnt the exhaust going straight into the bedroom before too?

I have a 9,000 cooling a 400 and 600 in a 5x5 closet flower chamber and I just cut a hole into the ceiling for exhaust and it works great I could have it in 60's easy, The a/c sits on a shelf about 5ft on the wall with a bucket below it to catch water.

The exhaust duct provided is only 60".it would not make it over and up w/out some more duct defeating my hole purpose of changing what i had. I will do something with making a hole nearby

before it was tyed into my exhaust duct for the light. i had a y 6" metal splitter, 1 side is the vortex and the other was the exhaust for the ac before. the duct runs like 20+ feet out after the splitter

not thread jacking just got one noobish question for natrone, i know how hot the air is that comes out of those ac's and my quesiton is that with it being exhausted into the attic will it not make the attic look extremely hot to a flir camera on a helicopter or is there no heat signature. i was thinking about using one but exhausting out a window is not an option and i was looking for some alternative ways while still being safe.
