Reverse Osmosis Questions

I am wondering what Reverse Osmosis System would be best for a small to medium size garden.
Here are a few that I was considering...
Thunder 3000CP Reverse Osmosis / Ultrafiltration System With UV Sterilizer, GAC Cartridge, & Electric Pressure Pump

For the Thunder 3000CP Reverse Osmosis system does anyone Know what the reason is for the Electronic Pressure Pump?
Because there is another model that comes without it and it is much cheaper.

god theres nothing worse than peoples comments like this.. don't tell people what to do, obviously they want RO and itll be their decision.. as far as which one to get, im not quite sure yet. that's why im trolling ro posts lol

booster pump is if your have rubbish water pressure. there are a lot cheaper ones out there too that just do the same job. Id advise you to get a decent size tank an to get a float valve that way u will always have enough RO when needed

he didn`t tell him what to do AND he doesn`t need to waste his money on a ro filter. chlorine kills crap in the soil if you`re doing organic and doesn`t mean a thing in hydro.

depends on personal preference really. I like to filter my tap to 0ppm and add back the calcium/magnesium bicarbonate I removed, in the form of calcium nitrate and magnesium nitrate. I have found bicarbonates can have negatives effects if use to frequently with my hydro fertilizers. If in soil, its ok then, it gives the microbes something to work on and break down. Effects are slow to notice from any bicarbonate and still, to much in soil will screw things up a bit for you.

Neither one of those systems are money well spent.

Air Water Ice, Spectrapure, Buckeye Field Suppy....check out what these folks have to offer and go with what suits your needs. I own a Typhoon III from AWI, and I have made several modifications to improve an already excellent system.

Particulate filtration: This is the first or the first two filters in your system. I opt to get a 1 micron and a 0.2 micron because it is crucial to keep the carbon filter free of particulates. A chlorine guzzler type of carbon filter will be your next filter. Carbon filters protect your RO membrane so get a good carbon filter. RO filters come in all sorts of ratings and rejection rates. Dow Filmtec is the standard as is 75gpd and 98% rejection. Lower rejection costs less as does the lower GPD ratings. Higher pressure will equate to higher rejection, know this!! I used a BFS 150gpd membrane and a pressure pump for optimal production and rejection.

UV sterilizers....really not necessary. You must know what you want to kill and you must know how much UV light is required to kill what you are trying to kill. Also, UV light degrades up to 50% so typically you need to get twice the UV light power you think you may need because 6 months later, you are at 50% of the original rating. Again, I strongly urge you to call up one or all three of the companies I listed above. They will be more than happy to discuss proper filtration rather than sell you a bunch of components you don't need.

Not disputing what anyone is saying but my present run has been a challenge, I also have been putting a lot of thought into an RO system. My water source is a well and this winter the make up of it has changed to the point I had to redial in everything, including the addition of Mag. My plants suffered to some extent while getting it right (i'm a newb so it took a big). It would IMO to start at a known base line each and every time. I haven't decided yet to get one due to water storage needs and waste water disposal. I grow in a shed so its a logistical challenge.

Yep, chlorine does nothing in hydro. Specially if you are going the bennie way. Bennies love chlorine.
Plus, very hard water is great for the plants. Specially when you put nutes in and end up with rediculously high amount of diluted salts. Roots will just love that osmotic preasure sucking the water out of them.

Still, I think you don't need anything nearly that expensive. I have a 70 USD worth RO system with RO membrane and just two aditional filters (sediment and activated carbon) and it does a perfectly good job removing the excess salts in my very hard tapwater. I don't think UV sterilization will do any good to you as you will never get a sterile water in your contaminated house enviroment anyway.

The cheapest I've been pricing are around $175 but they only produce 60 gals per 24 hrs.

Got mine from ebay for 85 USD from Germany.

Its 50 GPD, but thats much more then I need.

Im sure that would be lots but for some reason i thought i could attach garden hose and proceed to fill res lol. Like I said, logistically its tough. Oddly enough my well seems to have settled out and back to 200ish base, ph at 7, so i can deal with that.

Get a stealth ro. They waste less h2o.

i don`t use benni`s so they didn`t cross my mind but i never used anything but tap water and i clean my shit with bleach and don`t have any problems. i don`t get high diluted salts when i put in nutes. do what ya want, if you need to spend big money to grow good weed be my guest. what ever works for you man. my way happens to work for me just fine.

Im just saying, what works for you will not work for everyone.

if anyone needs a RO system, I found a very decent site to get them. try purewaterclub.com I ordered a 6 stage 100gpd RO/DI system for $100 with free shipping, it says with the RO it should come out with about 20 ppm or so and then after running that through the carbon scrubber it should hit 0ppm.. I ordered it today (with also a $5 floater valve) and ill return to review it after it gets in through the mail.. ill run some ppm tests and ph tests and also the whole kit came with tubing and auto shut off valve, flow restrictor, saddle clamp drain valve and some other handy crap.. they have a lot of stuff at very good deals.. ill let yall know how they work out though, in the mean time check out there site or their ebay store.. just search purewaterclub*com in ebay and itll pop up

i was going to suggest the same thing. I buy lots of systems from them. I click on weekly sales and there is a 5 stage for $95, then you get the 150 gpd membrane that takes it from a 9-1 to a 1.5 to 1 waste to good.

that's good to know.. just out of curiosity, do all of their RO membranes work in all of their systems? I would love to get the 150gpd membrane especially with that low of a waste ratio
