Scientific Research Suggests Smoking Cannabis DOES NOT Cause Lung Cancer

According to Dr. Michael Greger, there is scientific evidence smoking cannabis does not cause lung cancer like tobacco smoke.

I am totally feeling good about buying a beautiful new Zippo lighter recently.. *ZIPPO CLICK* :bigjoint:

unhealthy does not mean carcinogenic, at least in this case.
i got a dry herb vape about 6 months ago, and i can feel a huge difference in my lungs. not claiming vaping dry herb is "good for you" but i sure feel a lot better than i did taking 12-20 bong hits a day

I would be happier with a peer-reviewed source in place of this huckster.

Yep. This has been known for a good while. All sorts of studies point to dope smokers who also smoked cigs as getting lung cancer, while folks who smoked dope but not cigs did not get lung cancer.

The best way I can explain it is the hairs on your lungs get gunked up by tobacco smoke and you don't get the cough response to get rid of the crap. Pot smoke does not do that. The little hairs in your lungs feel the gunk from the smoke and you cough it up. When I was on a Med Cruise back in my Navy days, smoking hash everyday, I coughed up so much black shit every morning my shipmates made jokes about smoking my lungs when I die.

I am eagerly awaiting good/better science and research on the topic as it gets more legal. I have certainly seen a number of studies saying it doesn't cause cancer, not sure if any of it is reputable though. I really can't get past the idea that smoking anything is probably carcinogenic, though I don't know enough about how/why cancer forms to make that call.

Kinda sucks as it's a "sexy" topic so hard to find non-biased stuff.

The video is literally the doctor analyzing a bunch of scientific papers on this subject (which I would imagine have been peer-reviewed). If you have a problem with the research he's discussing, why don't you cite a specific reason/evidence why instead of just throwing around insults like "huckster" that don't prove anything and lack supporting evidence? Attacking the person instead of the arguments being made is a common logical fallacy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem

If you want to look at the actual research papers he's discussing in the video, there's nothing stopping you from copying & pasting text from the papers he shows in the video into a search engine to pull up the sources of the research papers he's discussing in the video.

He also provides a list of sources below the video in case you want to try making a logical argument for a change.

Basically, there is no clear proof that smoking weed causes cancer like tobacco. However, the studies on the subject are not the most rigorous experiments. Further research is required. Cancer isn't the only smoking ailment. You don't want to get COPD or emphysema.

The way I look at it is the benefits of smoking weed outweigh the eventual long term risk.

Here's my take. I quit smoking close to a pack a day 6 years ago. Let's say roughly 20 cigs a day all told. Even if Cannabis has 4x the tar, I only smoke max 1/2 joint/pipe per day. Maybe. I also take breaks in between. I'd need to smoke 5 J's a day, everyday for years, to reach the total of tar and other chemicals that I was inhaling with cigs, and I'll assume that most people do not smoke a 25 pack of joints a day.

Perspective should be taken into consideration along with the science. Or lack thereof to this point.
