My buddy wants to upgrade a little and I wasn't sure if it would be worth it for him to buy some 2ft led t5 replacements for his 6 bulb light.

Anyone with experience with these have any input? I am not sure what spectrum he should get , he will probably only use it for veg but maybe also as supplement during flowering

They are more efficient than florescent but not as efficient as good LED grow lights. Last time I checked they were about the same as led bulbs, around 90-95 lumen/watt, but some are a bit better. Good grow lights are more like 175-200 lumen/w. Be sure to get the ones that bypass the florescent ballast, more efficient than going through a ballast and the LED driver. Different wattage's are available. 3500K is a good LED spectrum for veg and flower.

Yeah I just wasn't sure if there were cheap led tunes he could retrofit on his old 6 bulb 2ft set up. I was recommending him start with a small LED panel and I'm sure once he gets one he will want more

He doesn't have a ton of money to spend on growing just trying to see if that may be an option
