Transplant Question

This is a two part question.

Growing in a soil mix, multi-strain.

I have a few plants in about 1qt "jiffy" pots. These are mostly my SLH plants and tonight, after their watering, I noticed that the roots were starting to be seen coming out of the holes in the bottom of the pot, just barely, but there just the same. The plants are just starting to show their second true leaves. They are about 3-5 inches across, and just a few inches tall, about 10 days since they broke ground.

They will be next going into 5 gal "root pots" which are like smart pots.

So, first question; since I can see roots coming out, do I need to transplant?

Second question is; although the jiffy pot folks say just burry it, I can imagine this barrier, if you will, hindering the speed of root growth in the 5 gallon pots. Should I just stick the jiffy in the dirt and cover, or should I try to take the plant out of the jiffy pot?

Thanks :)

1. Pic is better but i would transplant only if it's drying out like every day, if it's not, you could wait till it does.
2. bio degradable pot, i would leave it, unless it's super easy to take off.

Good luck.

transplant if you can see the roots they are in peat pots so they will not stress much if at all, when transplanting tear the bottom off the peat pot and tear the top of the cup dpwn to where the soil is. then transplant. Good Luck Bro.!

Thanks fellas. I would love to post pics but I only got a phone to take them with so the quality wouldn't be too good. Besides, removing meta data is a bitch!

careful going from 1 qt pot to 5 gal it will be easy to overwater till the plants grow into it. 1 gal in between might be better. i dont thnk it should be a prob for the roots to grow thro the jiffy pots, once you bury them they will be wet all the time so they will get alot softer.

leave it for sure. Has good stuff and is already doing a great job promoting roots, don't mess with a good thing.

I'm still a NEWB so my advice is subjective; if you desire to put them in the 5 gallon pots right away, be sure to water them deeply every few days for a week or so then just pour a cup of water on it every day. Check daily for moisture. If you are on the southeast coast they will probably need a gallon of water every other day or more during July-August heat waves.
