Looking 2 buy my first bike. I have convinced myself my 6'4, 240 pound self can learn on a xsr 900 since it has the 6 axis imu and i can dial back into mode 4. Opinions...?

I've rode for years and gave up when insurance got too expensive and other drivers on the road got less capable in the area that I ride in.

My last bike was a 2005 Yammi FZ1 so the xsr 900 isn't far off what I'm used to. I don't consider them a beginners bike. You can get in trouble very easily. https://www.zeroto60times.com/compare-cars/ shows quarter mile times are 10.5 for the FZ1 and 11.1 for the XSR.

Harley V Rod. I wanted the comradery and stigma of a Harley and the V Rod is their fastest bike produced ( I also have a turbo added for more fun).
6 foot 4 you'll need to sit on a few bikes just to see if you fit!

I've been biking for over 25 years & I'm a big guy too....so here's my 2 cents.
Take a Motorcycle Safety course. Around here when you pass you get your bike license, and it helps with insurance.
Since you'll probably drop it in the first 6 months, get a good used inexpensive bike. Your size pretty much demands a cruiser, 750 or bigger.

Good luck

I found scooters to be WAY more fun. An old 80s Honda Elite 150 or 250. But, a crazy stripped down version we called "the skelly"

This was my 1985 Elite 150. I could do about 70 on it.

This was my 1985 Elite 150 with the flip headlamp. This one never topped 60mph

My old Yamaha TW200, it was kind of a dog on the streets but it RIPPED trails and off-road.

I've got two of the old Honda CT-90's trail bikes, a 1970, and a 1975, both run fine, one is street legal, but not currently registered. I use them mostly for trail riding, which is a blast. There's a group of us that all have them and we do trail rides. I like them because even at full speed, if I go down, there's a good chance I'll walk away from it (I'm old and don't heal like I used to). Back in the day, I used to ride a Triumph 250 Trophy, wish I still had that bike.

I loved my TW! I had the same slip on exhaust. Did you go with the airbox mod and use the TTR225 headers?

I got myself a 230cc dual sport at the end of last year, and have been riding it as much as possible. Just about to hit 6k miles in 10-months of ownership. It's super fun to blast up in the hills on dirt trails, and just as fun to zip around town. Gotta love the gas mileage. It's my first bike in 20-years. My last bike before this was a Honda CB750 that I rode up and down the west coast for a couple of years. Prior to that, back in high school I has a classic 125cc vespa that I bored up to 150cc.

never ridden before? for sure take a course.
dont go big and powerful, too easy to get out of control and it WILL happen fast.
old rule of thumb used to be if you lay the bike over on the ground and cant easily pick it up its too heavy.
been riding for 50 years. from a 125 rickman in the dirt to 750 kawasaki H2 triple on the road.
my fav was 73 750 triumph tiger. classic era.

Just took a safety course this past weekend to bypass the state test and see if I would even like riding, so I'm in a similar boat. I'm 6'4 185, they had us on some harley 500 cruiser, and it was a bit cramped imo. Really difficult keeping my knees in.

I'm looking at Honda 750 aero or rebel 1100. Going to sit on some Hondas at the dealership tomorrow, but I'm not buying a bike until next spring.

Harleys are decent bikes, but that stripe and badge emblem ain't worth an extra 3-5 grand imo

I've had several. But I'd wait till Fall at the Ford Dealership when people were trading them in. I'd low ball them on the trade in, buy it, ride it for a year, and then sell it for a profit, and wait for the next one.

I wouldn't get an 1100 for a first bike, you are asking for trouble. What sort of riding do you plan to do?

First time riding id say is too much power. Is your life just be careful. Id prob be injured or dead if i had a big bike like that right off the bat. I rode dirtbikes as a kid so i am a decent rider to begin with. My problem is speed. Love it too much. Id prob be a smear across the highway. I ride a gs500 now and prob gonna get a 650/700 next year. The gs500 is a good beginer bike imo. Twist the throttle in 1st u wont pull a wheelie. U can do wheelies if u want but would have to rev it pretty high and drop the clutch. Hard to do by accident.

4 power options? Is there a really weak one? 900s r really fast and powerful.
