I prefer mostly cloudy with just a hint of amber, maybe 10% if I can get it on the right day.
I usually end up with about 10 to 15% amber and everybody around here loves it.
Cloudy gives an uplifting head high and Amber gives a couch lock high.
Amber is a rotten trich for most strains so I would not let it get too dark with bag seed.
Should be some good smoke none the less.

Depends on the person and strain, you could always start when they go cloudy and finish when they're all amber to test it out, you don't have to chop the whole plant at once, I like to leave the bottom leaves and buds on while chopping the top colas so they grow a bit more.

Yep they do, you just have to make sure to leave some leaves on the plant and make the cuts as clean and as few as possible

I cut off the main branches once they are ripe and then leave the bottome branches and buds on for another week or two to fatten up

Don't be scared of amber trichs. Be scared of bent, brown trichs - those are fully/past mature. Smoke on it; what kind of high do you want :)

Harvesting doesn't dictate high.* That is genetic. Harvesting when you have 10-30% amber is 10-30% wasted thc as CBN has no psychoactive value. This entire thread is filled with misinformation. Then again, this is the newbie section so why should I expect different.

*Now if you harvest a premature plant you will get bud with minimal psychoactive effect. Cloudy is peak trichome potency. Amber is past peak.

I've heard the longer time results in a more couch-lock effect before, and from what I would consider reputable sources. (I also consider you a reputable source, based on many of your other posts I've seen, which is why I'm commenting.) Clearly, genetics play a huge role, but are you saying there's no truth to the later harvest/more couch-lock thing whatsoever? Trichomes are my next area of focus, as I seem to have the gender identification thing down pretty well now, so any threads/books/websites you'd suggest for basic, albeit in depth and accurate, info on trichomes?

In as little words as I can put it. Once a trichome is amber, the THC has been degraded into CBN, which is non psychoactive(will not get you high) Clear trichomes have trace amounts of THC, they will get you high but only just. It's more complicated than that but to be short, The whole amber trichome = couch lock is misinformation from way back when THC wasn't that well understood. That or someone on a grow forum said it and everyone started repeating it until it because "fact"
