how are these two suppliments different and where can I buy cal mag? I have some plants that are showing alot of rusting, so I plan on feeding either cal mag or epsom salt today for mg def. Is there a reason I should use one or the either? Thanks.

the cure for rust is a teaspoon of baking soda in a gallon of water. put it in a sprayer and soak the leaves, both sides. also, make sure there is air circulation.

Cal-mag is available at any hydro store or the internet, it's very common. Use 3-5ml/gal with RO water in my flood and drain set up depending on PPMs. If you want to go cheaper I would go with Epsom salts.. be sure to research how much to use and be sure to dilute it well in some warm water or something before mixing it so it dissolves completely. I think what I saw was like 1 and 1/4 cup per 125L but look it up before you use that much. :P

Hope this helps!

Baking soda? Thought that just adjusted ph, am I mistaken? I'm also 8 weeks Intp flowering so prefer not to spray at all.

8 weeks? yeah, no foliars at this point. are you sure you're just not experiencing yellowing off??? and yes, baking soda, great for rust. e.s. and cal-mag is for mag def's..

Cal-Mag is a defined product made for plants.
Epsom salt is a Kludge. Used for everything.

(I used epsom salt, it worked for me, was cheap and can get anywhere. Always felt funny in Hydro shops. I bet better then 90% of their customers are growing pot. Big commercial greenhouses don't go to a local shop, and if they do have an account there. That and people here like to toss money at all these nutes and supplements. More money I toss at it the better it has to be. BS)

So what ailment is the baking soda curing, I'd like to know so I can make educated decisions in the future. Also is the soda going to raise my ph? Mine is already a bit high witch is prob causing my issues.

Thanks for the prompt replies fellas!!

Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, no? Noting comes to mind. (other then the pH stuff)

baking soda takes care of rust.....

good tips Silky maybe that might get tried out sometime by some people here and they can report back? ;)

also, calmag isn't 10$ for everyone, some places its rediculous expensive so why bother with it to begin with

Use Cal-mag... Its not worth cheaping out on a $10.00 nutrient.
Good Luck.

Could not agree more. I've used cal mag for two plus years now and have never had a single problem. Sure it's more expensive, but as mentioned above....it's designed for plants. I've never used Epsom salt, but I would guess it would be hard to tell how much to add to be effective. With Cal Mag, you just read the directions and all is well. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I also use CaMg+ and I don't have problems with yellowing leaves. I pay $17 for a quart (.95 liter). It's lasting me almost a year. All my watering and feedings include it except seedlings, clones and flushes.

Are you using DWC? Soil coco? I'm using DWC with both addatives getting out the purple veins. Using MG as my nutes. Learning a lot as we all need our defencencies.

Baking soda is to dilute acid which is ph up. I believe BS is also a ph down possibly. Along with rust? Issues?? What is this rust?

2 tbsp/gal. from my experience. I keep both CalMag and Epsom Salts in the supply area, and will use either, dependent upon which is appropriate.

You can also go another route. Try Dyna Gro foliage pro 9-3-6 all the way through once and see if you can avoid the yellowing in the first place IMHO of couse. lol

calmag is expensive. wow what a bunch of cheap bastards. Last I checked I paid that much for a meal just for me and my kid.... at a fast food restaurant.

Life costs $75 dollars for a tank of gas for your car. its 2014 Cheap fucks.

On a more positive note. Calmag works great for prevention and if you are in coco it is a requirement because of the natural calcium draw. If you are not getting instant results fixing a magnesium defeciency then try foliar feeding the bottom of the plants with 1/2 tsp/quart epson salt.
