Defoliation Experiment - Side by Side Sister Clones

defoliation is a skill not a , set forget method

let it grow, dont be sadist with it, defoliate just to defoliate.....their is a purpose and a reason to remove leaves and change where the flow of growth auxins are
And if you understood how a plant uses light you would realize defoliation is useless. Topping and bending moves auxins as well without the removal of leaves with much great success that's actually documented. Arguing that you need to remove leaves to get light to lower buds is plain crazy, just run proper lighting and there is no need to defol because lack of light.

id suggest at about 6 nodes and some natural branching remove the bigger fan leaves from the main top, and as the other branches grow remove their upper main leaves as well

the removal of leaves will effect both growth and where the plant focuses its growth most at ...so be aware that you will be effecting that directly
And, you agree that by doing so, you will need to add veg time for the plant to recover from this,Correct?

yes and no...but you are correct

i will add ...over time the plant will become resilient to teh pruning of leaves and actually grow faster, but this takes a bit more time, but if timing is right not as much as you would think, growth can be exponential to your needs(tops, canopy style, yadda yadda )

All I hear from you guys that defol is that it takes more time? If growing indoors doesn't more time equal more money when keeping the lights on longer? Does this make you more efficient? Do you like throwing money away?

Right, so Again, WHAT, I am hoping to get from this experiment is.

Is the added cost of electricity to defoliate a plant and let it recover worth the extra yield(if any) Vs. just topping or supercropping.

If it costs an extra $50 in power to get another oz or 2=totally worth it

if it costs an extra $50 to get a few grams more, not worth it. That is the data I will be looking at.

the thing is the gain is exponential....not a multiple. when i moved from 2 gallon pots to 5 gallon pots the gain wasn't 2.5 times it was much more

the gain made from a plant grown with care and understanding will be exponentially better

i did 2 gallon pots for 3 years...not shittign you

i can get a QP from a 2 gallon smart pot......i can get less too

but i know my max adn min from strain to strain tha ti used then...and when i switched on teh advice from a ganjapharmer.....i had a much higher then multiple growth and im sure others will say so as well , root mass is exponential when happy

.??????????????i can repost my 5 gallon monster top lady again but i dont feel i shoudl ahve too......proof pudding

Hopefully, this exp. will prove you correct. I await the results.

You sit there and call us imbeciles but fail to realize that defol is a waste of money and time? As long as pot has been grown you think someone would have coined a solid defol technique wouldn't you?
No, I called people who cannot hold or allow others to hold a rational debate imbeciles.

Why not try and explain why it will add extra time and money to a grow, add it to the debate rather than flame at people in here? All techniques have pro's and con's, so let's put them all in the mix.

Plants have been around for millions of years and we don't yet fully understand some of the things that they do, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that there could be things we haven't discovered about them yet? Defoliation is only replicating what can happen in nature, the same as all of the other techniques that are used like topping and bending. We are just manipulating the plant to follow it's own natural responses.

Whatever method produces the higher grams per kilowatt hour is more efficient. Simple math.

then you are the biggest imbecile here.
No, it is NOT. The sun is FREE. Electricity costs $$$$. what don't you get about that?

Thats my point, if a defol plant takes 3 weeks longer for the same yield or less what IS what I'm claiming. Simple reading comprehension...

is def one of the things needed to take into account when considering defoliating.....also every strain will react a bit different, some less favorable then others

this is not a set it forget method it requires you , and your shadow over your plants .......

Good, your prediction is noted. Is is okay if the test gets done anyway?

Or or you could just not mess with it and get better results. So now I have to defol ten plants just to find the strains that like it? Sounds like more money down the drain. Now thats efficiency!

We get you, it's not very efficient. That's ok though because I hate polar bears with a passion, and I have plenty of money so that's not a concern.

If I was concerned about the amount of electricity i'll be using then i'll get some solar panels fitted to my house!

Come on, some one had to mention solar panels in a thread about defoliation!!!

STFU dumbass, AND we get that after the experiment shows that defol. isn't very efficient, you are going to cry that it was the strain and how it isn't the best choice for defoil.

So do you buy groceries and not eat them? Do you overfill your gas tank and lets it spill everywhere? Just wondering why you guys like throwing away money. I get that it's your money and you spend money as you please but don't come here claiming defol grows more bud in the same amount of time. That's the whole point to this thread.

LMFAO...................................and I quote from neo's post

I would like to start by dispelling a myth that plants slow down when you defoliate them, the two pictures were taken just 4 days apart and I had just topped the plant in the second picture so there...
