Free health care. LOL!

TANSTAAFL! Read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein and you will understand that 'There Ain't no such thing as a free lunch.'

Here's what would have happened to Ted Kennedy in a free health care utopia:
HOW 'LIBERAL' CARE WOULD KILL TED - New York Post
You know johnny, I read your link about Kennedy. In this country, hardly anyone could get that treatment unless they were a senator or rich. Obama has promised to give every citizen health care as good as US senators get. This should prove to be interesting, because I'm guessing what Kennedy just got ran higher than 100K, and I'm sure the Big Pharmas are charging an arm and a leg for the medicine he's on right now. BTW, What did you think of that Canadian Guys "Run for the cure" videos. He claims concentrated doses of THC will cure cancer and damn near everything else. I'd sure like to see some scientific trials on that stuff. If true, then the government is openly killing thousands by denying them the cure. That is his claim. Government health care is better than no health care, that's my contention for the 60+ million that have none and for the other 150 million that have suck-ass HMOs that regularily deny treatment or drugs, would government health care be any worse?

I can only say I disagree with your first statement. People get treated for catastrophic diseases in the U.S. every day under our current system.

I think I've seen the THC guy in a video, intriguing. As long as we insist on the War on Drugs, we'll never know.

My issue with Universal Health Care is the expense. For all that money, much more money than we spend now, we will end up with the same level of quality health care as we have in quality in public education. A substandard product where complaints over quality are met with a constant demand for MORE funding. Lack of funding will always be the excuse, no matter how much we spend. Just like now.

Does your generosity extend to Illegal Aliens? Criminals who have invaded our country and steal public services intended for our citizens and legal residents?

Mr. O your a very intelligent informed man which i applaud you for

but reading through your posts i feel like you are so black and white on so many things. Like there is nothing in the world that could change your mind.

I have my opinions as anyone does, but being openminded opens up the world :peace:

Thank you.

Having strong opinions does not make one closed-minded. I back up many of my points with well known and common knowledge, or I directly link my sources.

My positions are embraced by the right in some cases and the left in some cases. This makes me close-minded?

Your right its not

And i agree, i see the points of both left and right and many issues.

RIU discussions have swayed my opinions on things

I really dont wanna step on toes, and i know im treading dangerous waters, but how do you decide your stance on a subject? Has it ever been through someone's influence or is it all through reasearch?

This struck me as I was outside smoking a cigarette: more often than not in the politics section, I am much more likely to respond to a point I disagree with than otherwise. I can see how one could easily surmise my positions as black-white.

My reasons for my opinions are as varied as life itself, very much like all of us. If I feel strongly about something, I look into it before offering my opinion.

I know my vegan comments probably made a few people uncomfortable, but please understand I would not have mentioned it had it not been introduced here in this thread by another member. He thought it would be fun to ridicule my diet, a subject which had nothing to do with Israel, or rape for that matter. I responded with both barrels. I rarely back away from a fight.

Even though you and I disagree on selected issues, I have deep respect for you and your positions.

I respect everyone here, even my Houseboys. You are not counted among them. You get unqualified respect.

I second that

I love debate, and frequently debate against issues i agree with, simply for the rush

the crime is completely closing yourself off to new perspectives

Universal government sponsored healthcare...

The minute we let the government take our money to provide healthcare is the minute we give more of our freedoms away. The next step, once they have us "by the balls", will be to put forth legislation to deny us health coverage if we were found to have ingested transfats, bacon, smoked, engaged in dangerous sexual activity as nauseum. More control over our lives people....It's coming.

http://www.sacbee.com/111/story/1082742.html

We are giving our rights away to our leaders because we do not want to accept responsibility for our lives. We want them to tell us what to do and how to live. In return, we will give them our money and re-elect them time and time again.

"Free" health care? What's your tax rate? And if you are living off of your parents (a consideration here as school is out), what is your parent's tax rate? Oh ... and how does that tax rate relate to the average Canadian citizen's overall capital creation and productivity?

Here's an overview of the Canadian tax burden:

Taxation in Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Please note that Canadians not only pay a federal income tax, but a federal sales tax as well. This hardly makes for a "free" medical system.

And by the way, when you have the baddest muthafucking eagle on the planet, ever willlng to take your side living in your basement, you don't have to worry about fighting wars to protect your comfortable little nest. :blsmoke:

I think I'm on to something. re-distribution of wealth. As all you righties say anyway, give it a couple a years and it would all be back in the same hands anyway, so why not let the poor have a couple a good years? Who knows? They may like it so well they'd even try and keep the lifestyle by working their asses off, if not, well then you and all your cronies would have it all back anyway. Just get in the widescreen TV business as soon as they hand out the money, you could retire overnight. BTW, I'm awful tired of your underlining and redlining my posts. anyone that wants to can read the original. just make your coments and go away.
Wouldn't it be great if they did that in the first place, and earned their OWN money? Your 'redistribution' of 'wealth' sounds like the unions. You have a handful of young guys doing the work, while the 'old hands' sit on their asses, getting the benefits of the people actually producing. I won't go into the whole "give us what we want,or we will strike and hurt your business" mindset,or seeding. I have been in 2 unions in my life(Teamsters and IBEW),and the above stated reasons are why I no longer am. I don't need people telling me when I can and can't work. If I don't like my working conditions,I open up the want ads and find a new place to work.Nobody owes me shit.

i could swear i've said these exact same words a thousand times in a hundred different places and more often than not i've been shouted down as an uncaring right-wing bigot. maybe the american people have decided that we have so many freedoms we can afford to lose a few. maybe they are just tired of freedom and the responsibilities it entails and are ready to become the indentured servants of the state.

I'm vegan. So FUCKING what? Am I expected to be ashamed of it? On the contrary, my diet choices make me feel better about myself.
This isn't Mardi Gras and your not getting any beads. Put your "tits" away. (PS-I'm surprised you didn't take that opportunity to refer to yourself in the third person, yet again....("Johnny O's a Vegan." "Johnny O's no conservative." Johnny O's no conservative.)

What is it about my diet which frightens you so? What it is about my compassion for innocent life, my desire for a clean environment, my desire to eat murder-free food, which threatens you so terribly? My hands are clean when it comes to innocent animals suffering to feed my belly. Because my hands are clean of such incredible cruelty, my conscious is clear and I am a better person because of it.
"I'm Protestant and I'm going to heaven, but, if your not Protestant your going to hell." Fuck you, I'm agnostic..........and if there is a price to pay for eating savory meats, I'll pay it. (later)(anyone got a toothpick)

I can only surmise that you harbor enormous guilt because you know in your very soul that industrial execution of innocent animals for food is morally wrong. That terrible guilt fuels your antipathy towards my diet. I'm not judging you, dude. Merely observing.
Guilt? When I smile/laugh at your absurdity and all I see in the mirror is a toothy grin of molars, we'll talk. As long as my mouth harbors this viscous gang of meat shredders, I'm guilt free.

CC, I usually avoid responding to your ridiculous word-vomit because you are an ignoramus. What good can come from me choosing to argue with a fool? You - ccodiane: Useful Idiot for the Extreme Right. It would only please the opposition and entertain the folks at home.
Is that the "very conservative" or the "very liberal" JohnnyO? "Entertain the folks at home"? That's Grow Rebels favorite quip; this must be the "very liberal" Johnny O.

Med has been exhibiting relatively good behavior lately. I applaud him for his most recent posts. Because of that, I believe I understand him just a little better and in return, he may understand me a little better. That is the true nature of free and open dialogue. If he makes a point I agree with, I will SHOUT IT OUT(!) if I please. What is your objection to COMMON GROUND? Your version of 'dialogue' seems to meet my definition of 'monologue.'
What were you saying? I was thinking about the next paragraph I'm going to type already.........................

There is not a FUCKING thing you can write, say or do which will silence me. You can take that to the bank. Supercilious twit.
I can cut off your "dick" and stuff it into your mouth.........oh, wait, you said "silence me"...........not make me squeal like a tasty little pig.

You do not defend the Conservative position. In fact you are a disgrace to mainstream Conservatives. You make all Conservatives look like extremist, bloodthirsty, morons. You are the very definition of their common stereotype of us all. One must not be so rigid that you cannot bend a little. Otherwise you will break, or this world we live in will break you.
"Mainstream" is always liberal, Johnny Gold'Bama. You can keep your cherished inclusions.

You alarm me as much as the Islamists for your embrace of extremism in the name of your values. You make us all look bad. You want to take me on? Fine with me, but you must EARN IT. Do a little independent research here at RIU and you will know what I am talking about as I do not wish to expose it any more than I have already.
Shhhhhh. Shhhhhhhh. They could be listening.........Are you there? Anyone see JO'B? Invisible son of a meat eating bitch.

For now, you have joined my ever growing stable of HOUSEBOYS. There will always be room for one more knucklehead.
Stable of houseboys? Oh, I know. You do need a guilt free source of nourishment, don't you. How often do you "milk us" for our man juices, master?

Welcome! Go get me a cup of coffee.
As soon as your finished "feeding", master.

Kiss my ass you cocksucker..............

Oh, that hurt. I'm cut to the quick.
Humans are animals too Johnny...........it's OK to hurt.

Of course we kill with every action, I simply chose to limit the killing for which I am responsible.
No you don't........by participating in life, you steal life from others. When you die, you'll be a smorgasbord........

Being called a Loser from the Chief of the Loser Tribe must be a high honor. Thank you!
:blsmoke:

Actually, I was telling you to fetch MY coffee. I know no critter had to die to produce my coffee, as far as I know.
You know nothing.....What about all the poor bugs, whether in the field or on route to your table, that perished because of your ill fated decision to buy it, your beloved coffee?.........Woe are those bugs, for their blood is on your hands, Johnny Gold'Bama.

I said coffee. Black with no sugar.
How about a little "cream" with your coffee, master?

Run along now, Houseboy.
As soon as you finish "feeding", master........

Well. go on and work your ass off for whomever you want, it's still a pretty free country. My little 7-8 year stint in the Teamsters union got me a nice little retirement package. I only wish I'd of gone there sooner. I have complete medical, dental and eyecare for $280 a month 5.00 copays and 5.00 perscriptions., plus a tidy sum of cash monthly. Knock the unions all you want, but they built the middle class in this country. As you see the unions fading away, you also see the middle class dissapearing, just a coincidence, I think not.

No, it's not insane unless you truly consider Homo sapiens to be a species so totally different in every aspect from other animals. While we (as a culture) try not to anthropomorphize animals, we must accept that we came from the same stuff and therefore, that means it's quite possible that there are other animals cognizant enough to share emotions as we do. For all we know elephants and dolphins have their own religion (although, religion does seem to be a unique untestable aspect of the human condition).
You've studied a little anthropology? Is that where you get your deductions from?
