why does hawaii vote 70% or more democrat in elections, the highest of any state in the union?
Buck.

Probably because there is not much for a lot of good jobs around here, and the democratic leadership is into giving away free shit. Its about the giving more than likely.

Hey Buck.

I believe I told you it was more like the wild west. I will have to take a picture of the public gun range down the road just a few miles from my house. I have never seen that much spent ammo on the ground, not even on the main land. And when you leave the airport in Hilo there is a big sign that says Guns and Ammo for sale. Its kinda like a conservative paradise. imo
For the sake of historical accuracy: The Wild West had a far lower rate of shootings and murders per capita than modern day America.

the idea would be modeled after a functioning model in Tennessee.
It also requires the student to have a mentor, perform 8 hours of community service per term, as well as maintain a 2.0 GPA
the article doesn't talk about the legislation or about any 'fleshing out' required. it's just Obama saying it should happen. states would have option to participate. if they do then they would cover costs for first 2 yrs of community college.
8 hrs of community service per term is a great trade for 12 credits but still it's weasel wording, free tuition is not free when you have to do something. Not to mention finding a mentor might be hard for some of societies lesser citizens wanting to go. you know i like the idea honestly. i like chesus kept a straight face in light of my slightly hostile approach and i love how i had to go finish the 'reporting' for us

performing 8 hours of community server PER TERM is ridiculously easy thats like...literally nothing.
anything "free" should have a min requirement for a GPA and a 2.0 you could get a C in every class and maintain a 2.0 so thats not hard at all nor unrealistic
there are mentors in every college they are higher up students in your program easy peasy

i think this is a good idea education is expensive some people WANT to be educated but middle class or lower have a hardtime fitting in work and living expenses
this is an excellent idea in my opinion

anything that gives out free education always has requirements you must fill. and thats perfectly acceptable

not for everyone. what about wheelchair people or hearing impaired or other reasons that would make community service at best a difficult endeavor? we think all too often about how the rest of the world are equal but they are not. yes there may be many assistance programs for the afflicted and yes there even may be waivers for said individuals. moreover cs could simply be telemarketing for a non profit. i for one like the idea i just hope the end result is not as restrictive as it might end up being.

I would prefer the govt spent our money on this rather than other things, but I have to say, community college isn't that expensive compared to a university.

They are way cheaper.

There's a difference between being "free" and having a workable option to "work" your debt off. Free implies somebody else is going to be on the "hook" for your debt.

Do it the "old" fashion way and work your way through; earn it, it'll be much more appreciated. Don't pick a discipline or major you can't make a living at.

People need to learn to use their fucking heads. Btw, in a competitive market; who the "hell" is going to hire somebody with a "2.0" GPA?

Yeah, this has been thought out!

Should there be admission standards for this free schooling, or should it just be a warehouse full of illiterates?

so you're against raising min wage to a livable level and you're against school for those who want to bootstrap up.

that's kinda like how you are against abortion AND against contraception.

do you see how your philosophy might be a massive failure by now?

Never met an exec. who didn't preach "There's plenty of room at the top". Guess you prefer to run with the guy on the back of the truck instead of the driver.
"Never met an exec" is correct. I'm already the driver. I don't need some young shit trying to take my job who will work for less.

Yes, we know you earn your paycheck by sucking up to your employer. I work for the government, we don't do "hard" or "dependable". So, not a threat to me. If some school near you starts pumping out 500 qualified machinists a year, what do you think is going to happen to your pay level?

I currently program setup and run a Toshiba 200 VTL. The parts I work on run upwards to a 100k a piece. I do these jobs for the power generation industry including Nuclear. If you think a recent grad is going to take my job you must be projecting your own situation.

What are you some button pushing operator that barely understands a mic?

My previous employer had me programming setting up and operating Mazak Hyper Quadrex 6 axis dual spindle lathes.

What do you do?
