What do the experts think of this: http://www.grownorthern.com/lighting/holographic-series-1-led-grow-light.html . A 75w (actual) light for $350 GBP ($530 USD). It has some interesting features I haven't seen on other lights. And, they're not like the usual high-priced "secret sauce" lights, these guys provide a lot of info about what's under the hood.

Excerpts from the product page:

The new grow light uses the acclaimed high performance Philips Rebel LEDs along with specialized infrared LED's from LEDengine,

The LED module and cooling solution are powered by a 2015 Philips Xitanium Digital driver. The new Digital drivers combines intelligent data handling and smooth, precise drive. Unlike traditional AC/DC led drivers, digital drivers can diagnose, adjust and automate the entire LED system. So for example your grow rooms ambient temperature is rising beyond a safe limit, the driver will dim the LED's so the light stays on but the LED module and driver stay protected from overheating.

Traditional cooling fans make way for the Nuventix Synjet, a revolutionary active cooling solution that produces turbulent jets of air across the heatsink. Using a frictionless oscillating magnetic diaphragm the Synjet delivers near silent cooling and a 200,000 hour lifespan.

The Holographic series was named after the innovative new optical system .... includes a specially engineered micro structure optic (a Holographic Diffuser) which maintains light in the beam angle whilst producing a highly homogeneous spread of light. The optical system can be quickly and easily interchanged allowing you to adjust the beam angle to deliver the correct light intensity or spread requirement at any height restriction.
More detailed info:
Background:

GrowNorthern was an overpriced rebranded Chinese import when it was nothing more than a rebranded Apollo with custom spectrum. They broke out of that category when they released a "Rebel Upgrade Module" containing Phillips Luxeon LEDs. They published exact details about the LEDs and spectrum.

About 9 months ago they discontinued their rebranded Apollo model and expected to release this new light within a month. They went 9 months without any lights to sell. I just noticed this new light has finally come to market. They've definitely broken out of the rebranded category with a lot of custom design.

GN had (has?) a large following on autoflower.net. It may be geared more toward shorter plants(?). They claim their 75w light is equivalent to a 250w HID. That's so preposterous that it's unflattering.

Pricey but gotta give them props for shooting for quality. Glad to see they are using nuventix synjets. I have one on my diy cob and was wondering if production panels would start using them. I'd love to see this thing in action

I'm curious why the LEDs are placed in just one corner (1/4) of the fixture. If it were me, I'd distribute them for more diffuse light.

I wonder if it has something to do with their new cooling. Other lights blow hot air out the sides which I've never liked. I'd like it to blow up (as far away from the plants as possible). That's not possible with fans because drawing air from the top would create a "laminar" effect -- a column of relatively undisturbed air where the outer layer exchanges temperature while the inner core remains unexposed to hot surfaces. (Blowing down, directly onto the heatsinks creates turbulence for more temperature exchange.).

I wish they'd lay off the HPS rhetoric. Elsewhere they say two lights (150w) is better than a 600w HPS. They've got a lot of admirable things going on. They discredit their own achievements when they talk like that.

Found this while searching the web...identical to the GN light. Makes me wonder who is really producing these.

It looks like Crazy-LEDs is a storefront for Dutch Passion. I learned this by:

1. Autoflower.net had a large user base of GN lights before GN stopped selling it's rebranded Apollo design 9 months ago. I just looked to see what they're saying. Someone said the light is a collaborative effort between Grow Northern and Dutch Passion.

2. Looked at DP's website and they refer people to crazy-led which they refer to as their "dedicated web site." DP's page says it's developed by GN, "our LED partner."

That is some mighty fine detective work there. If you ever find anyone on other forums doing a journal with this light, please share here. Not that I plan on getting one, I just enjoy seeing new designs and tech

I'm sure more than one person on autoflower.net is (or will be) journaling. That place had a lot of GN fans. I'll give it some time for grows to reach flowering, then look for some over there.

looked into getting one and was put off that they did not have the defusers yet nor did they know the price of them..So i did not buy as i need a non standard defuser. Why they do not know this or have them ready for release is baffling.

I wouldn't be too critical of that. 9-10 months ago GN discontinued their two Apollo-based models and announced a new light would be released the following month. They showed a photo of the anticipated new light. Something didn't work out. They ended up not selling any lights for 8-9 months. The light they ended up releasing looks far more engineered than what they thought they would sell.

I don't know what happened, but obviously they put a lot more effort into their new model than they anticipated. They didn't sell any lights for a long time. Must have been a painful period. They had a devoted customer base who were undoubtedly getting impatient. It's understandable they came to market before all the accessories are available. I'm surprised they finally delivered. After 8-9 months not selling any lights, I thought they'd disappear. As close as they must've come to that outcome, I think they hit a home run. (Not sure about the performance claims. But, at least it's not an epi-whatever light.).

The small compact interior of the Holographic Series 1.
The SynJet silent cooling module replaces old-fashioned cooling fans.
The Philips Xitanium digital driver ensures intelligent and controllable power.

Please note. Our driver is designed for 220-240V therefore it will not operate in areas using 120V AC.
The reason we do this is to achieve the most efficient conversion of AC to DC and the highest level of regulation.
If demand is high enough we will consider making a version of our grow light optimised for 120V AC.

LED Driver. We use the Philips 2015 Titanium driver.
The new Digital drivers combines intelligent data handling and smooth, precise drive.
Unlike traditional AC/DC LED drivers, digital drivers can diagnose, adjust and automate the entire LED system.
If your grow room temperature rises beyond a safe limit the driver will dim the LEDs to prevent overheating and to prevent damage to the LED module.

Cooling. Traditional cooling fans make way for the Nuventix Synjet, a revolutionary active cooling solution that produces turbulent jets of air across the heatsink.
Using a frictionless oscillating magnetic diaphragm.
The Synjet delivers near-silent cooling and a 200,000 hour lifespan.
So not only is this superior to traditional cooling fans, it is also far more reliable and keeps your grow room whisper quiet

The Holographic Series LED grow light can be used vertically or horizontally while maintaining the same thermal performance thanks to the SynJet in combination with the 2mm copper core circuit board.
With older style LED grow lights overheating would easily occur if the unit was positioned at 45º to the plants, often causing LED modules to overheat and fail.
The bigger the wattage of the grow light the more of an issue this became.

Above and below.
The LED module uses 36 ultra-bright Philips Luxeon Rebel LED's each fitted with a high quality LEDIL secondary optic.
The central LED is a specialist Infra Red chip.(LEDengin- Infra-Red, 1 LED (725-740nm))
The LED module is machine soldered in Europe and has a 2mm copper core circuit board to aid heat distribution,

The Winsta Wago Distribution box allows up to 6 LED modules to be connected and powered via a single electrical socket.
Multiple LED grow lights can also be connected to each other using 'daisy chain' cables if preferred.

We focussed on designing a top quality grow light built from the best components,
A single Holographic Series 1 LED grow light is suitable for small/medium grow areas.
For larger areas several of our LED lights can be daisy-chained together and can be powered from a single electrical connection.
Two of our LED grow lights will be ideal for a 1.2m x 1.2m grow tent, they will produce very little heat and use just 150W.

pd. ...more pics...

...only for examples and ideas...;)...

pd... some techical info...its "wrong" to my pov... but is typical on comercial lamps... example they say...The Xitanium digital driver is rated up to 110W... i see 83W max... http://www.lighting.philips.com/main/prof/lighting-electronics/led-electronic-drivers/xitanium-fortimo-led-drivers-indoor/929000853803_EU/product

...they said... We stock a range of holographic diffusers with different light shaping effects ... on her web ...i dont see nothing on this way...

...maybe im wrong... off course...

pd1... im wrong... ...its td/i version...

I'm not sure what to think ..
Should I say better what I feel ?
I feel far away..Far away from any "magic" spectrum ,combo and such ...
I feel close to energy ..Energy supplied ..The more ,the better ...
Spectrum comes ,second ..
I feel that just a yolk of silicone will easily resolve that "magic spectrum " issue ...

I feel that i like better my Vero eggs ..

I feel dizzy and stoned as brick ...
FGS ! And what $hit those eggs are keep hatching ...

Testig it right now in growbox, really nice thing. Plant seems to like it much. It is week 6 of 12/12 starting now. plant is in 30*40*30cm space, 20cm away from HS1.
Strain unknown. Heavy defoliation and training is used. SImple DWC setup and Cellmax line + GHE additives.
White balance fix is used when taking photos.
\Diffusor is the real magic on this thing.
Cooling with synjet would be more effective, but i did took off top lid and put additional 8cm pc cooler on radiator - it is only warm now and never hot.
W will see what this light is capable of after 7 weeks.

This is OLDER photo, just showing how fixture is set.

With diffuser (OLDER photo)

Without diffuser (OLDER PHOTO)

I meant that synjet would be more effective in bigger box/tent, etc. In such a small box i do not trust it to cool this thing alone, so additional fan was mounted to help. There is never too much cooling :)

Check TaNg's grows on youtube. I was thinking to get next a mars or hs1 or budmaster but I will go with the h1 just for the low wattage.
