i can only appologise for the poor quality of the pics but i was taking pictures of pictures in a magazine using just my mobile phone camera, i only took the pics so people could get a rough idea of what they look like and what theyre about, im logged in here on my phone with a tiny 2" square screen and i can see the pics ok, i suggest u put your goggles on.... JK lol

because of the sulphur plasma lamps size shape and immense light intensity, it lends itself perfectly to the concept of using a single remotely located lamp to light several different rooms, even on different light cycles without adding ANY surplus heat, by streaming the light via tens of thousands of fibre optic strands to multiple growrooms with a cpu controlling the fibre optic strands individually to cater for each rooms day/night cycle and intensity of light desired for each room and because the fibre optic strands only carry the light and none of the heat, the ends of these strands will be able to touch yr plants without burning at all, unavoidable heat issues for the indoor gardener would be a thing of the past! This concept similar to light piping already used in sp technology is already undergoing research and development...

they aren't as good when looking at the lumen/watt but 140 lumen/watt is still good and that little bulb is so tiny :)

i cant watch that vid coz i cant get that flash player thing on my fone, but iv seen a vid on youtube of something similar with an extremely bright tic-tac sized bulb, but if it produces 140 lumens per watt as crooked says then my 600hps produces more, my 600 produces 96.000lumens (when new) 96000 divided by 600 equals 160. A 1340w sp lamp produces 600.000 lumens thats 447.7 lumens p/watt, ud need 4286 watts of those tic-tac lights to produce 600040 lumens, and does it say in that vid that the tic-tac lights are even the correct spectrum, let alone as close to the suns as the sp is, the sp is the "sun on earth" the-tic lights look as tho they are made for other lighting applications where spectral distribution isnt as important, the sp is designed from the ground up for horticulture.

Uh, people, the 1000 watt version does not produce 600,000 lumens. This light is no more efficient than a HPS which is why it never took off 15 YEARS ago when this technology first came out.

Until high power LEDs become twice as efficient and much cheaper, HID lights are in no danger of being replaced.

Can't you elaborate on that a bit more. Why is it these don't do what is claimed all over the net?

You mean like the magnets you clip to your fuel line to gain 25-40% efficiency? Or the little sticker to boost cell phone reception? Claims all over the place.

And I don't think the spectrum matched at all....the red/orange was way low. If it were supposed to match shouldn't the red line be going through...I need to look at it again...I may be wrong.hang on

Sounds a bit ludite-ish to me. Maybe I'm just an wishful thinker!

The sticker by the way to boost you mobile signal did work on some phones as I had some. They worked wonders for my Nokia 6600 but did nothing for my N73. I don't know anything about the magnets for fuel.

If this were a complete dud though I don't think LG would have invested too much money in it, do you?

at the moment no i dont think hps/mh are in danger of being replaced. But in our ever eco-concered world i think people will be turned on to the idea of replacing multiple hps/mh with one or two sp lamps using a fraction of the power. I never said the 1000w version produced 600.000 lumens, its the 1340w that kicks out that amount of lumens, measured at the volkswagen factory and witnessed by Roland Loosli of growbox.ch, personally i dont think a magazine would publish this kind of info if it were untrue? personally i believe sp is the future of growing, and we'l see when the first units hit the uk and the first real at home not huge lab testing begins and when the retail price falls to half of what it will be whens its released il be sure to be getting one. Im no scientist so im not going to argue in great depth about sp's claims. Im merely passing on information seen in a magazine.

indeed the red/orange spectrum isnt as closely matched to the sun as the blue/green but no other light still even comes as close mh/hps spectral distribution charts are full of peaks and troughs only being high only in very narrow bands of the spectrum, the sp provides full broad spectrum free from any troughs.

Tossing money at ideas is a no prob for a company that big (Isn't LG part of Phillips?) Plus its a tax write off if it fails.

Would you toss $50-100 at this bulb to try it?

Look at Ford and the Wankle motor. Tossed TONS of money at it. Gave up and sold t to mazda who got it working.

Companies DO invest a lot of money into things. Sometimes they fail.
(not saying this bulb failed or will)

very very neat...how hot do these things actually get?...its almost like alien technology or something...i agree...thats a grip to pay for a light...and you prolly couldn't expect the price to come down for quite some time...and how much power does that thing draw?..it seems like it would suck up energy...just the name plasma figures me to think that...nonetheless it kicks ass

so how much is this really gunna cost??? and it says 1340 watts some crazy shit i think using this during a veg state would be fukkin crazy and the flower state as well but not as powerful as the veg state

a 1340w sp lamp pulls just that 1340w, well slightly more from the socket. As for heat i dont know how much exactly but less than mh/hps.
