i have something like that in my flower garden, leftover from the previous homeowner.
the field has survived two weeks of flooding rains, a blizzard on mother's day, and 2'' worth of pounding, marble sized hail.
have at least 27 stalks in each row (there should be 32, but oh well. close enough).
the earliest transplants are the biggest, seedlings and later transplants are smaller but still there. we're due for a week in the 90s now, which corn loves. gonna give them tons of water and let them soak up the heat. should get knee high by fourth of july if this weather holds.

i never fucked around with corn as i believe you need a pretty big chunk of land to devote to them, and i just don't have that much for a proper corn grow.. my entire garden is probably only about 10 x 50 or so'ish..

corn does better in a block, corn on the perimiter never does as well as the stuff int he middle.
but you can still get some fine corn in a space your size with room for everything else. 1 sq ft per stalk is standard, but you can cram them if need be.

Corn thrives in full sun. Lots of trees can block morning and afternoon sunlight.

LA, often drove up the nearest hillside. now, i see how rural life delivers clearer night skies, seen a few constellations, an ok tradeoff if you're into frogs crickets commuting and the ever present radio. classical is on right now
minimal gardening, critters are moving in. mesclun n red lettuce in recycled root systems, a few peppers, tomatoes and cilantro keeps reseeding.
stork brought six groundhogs, mama and five. plus pete down at the barn. recent rains has kept them elusive. buggers, they're under the deck. perhaps it's time for more of a focus on wildlife mitigation, than gardening this season.

I have a problem, my corn is too thirsty.........it's dying, but I don't have much choice. Im only allowed to water it twice a week or I risk being fined. They need water daily or they start wilting. Any ideas or shd I just let it die off now and cut my losses?

buy some kiddy pools and fill them up on watering days. then buy a pump and pump them dry on non-watering days.

they love the heat. i've been flooding them twice a day on hot days.
edit: it was cooler and slightly overcast today so i pulled weeds. cornfields don't keep themselves that clean without help.
amazing what 3 weeks of hot mornings combined with soaking afternoon monsoons will do!

standing in the orchard looking down.
garlic andpeas near the fence, raised-bedlandia down below. lettuce and chard has all gone to seed, gonna harvest the seeds and replant. onions and taters almost ready to pull. been thinning out carrots and eating the small ones. finally grew my first cauliflower, got some decent broccolli too. second round of radishes is shitty as usual.
and to my wife's great delight, and after 5 years of struggle, i finally grew my first beet for her. got about 3 dozen more that i can pull at any time too.
oh, and some sweet potatoes as well. wife loves those for some reason.

i missed two weeks of weeding and thought it was a lost cause, but spent 8 hours out there pulling weeds today. got about 40% done, lol. looks a lot better now.
