"the red death" aka hemp russet mites

just wanted to see what everyone knows about these little bastards?? there pretty new to cannabis here in California. from what i understand they love capsaicin and pepper plants along with almost all veggie plants. where i am from there are tones of asians that grow pot along with there veggie gardens and i think thats why they are hitting the central valley so hard. ive been fighting them for 4 years now this will be the 5th with finely no sings of them!!

a little more about the mite and what they do to your plant!! they work on a cellular level and are microscopic you need a 60X scoop to really get a look! they look like small grains of rice white to yellowish in color and are very hard to diagnose with out a scoop.they will hit your plants and really start to effect the plant and show sings they are there around 2 weeks be for flower. heat steers will be the first thing to come to mind the edge of the leafs will curl in on them self's and look funny sometimes will happen in early stages of growth if you have them bad enough and it truly looks like heat stress. new shots will slow and began to turn a rust red color; I noticed this will only happen an early growth if you are spraying something that will not kill them on your plants they want to try and get away from whatever it is you sprayed.other wise it will start around 2 weeks be for flower. if your in flower or starting flower good luck! the hairs are the first to die off and trun red be for they should. lack of resin and smell and buds will turn rust red to like a gray. spraying is hard because they just move in tighter to the buds!!

and now to prevent and destroy the red death

the only thing that has worked for me is a 5 day spray program with 25 days in total. this was started the 2nd week of groth on outdoor plants

first spray - just basic neem oil

5 days after - i hit them with dr. earth final stop all organic has garlic oil,rosemary oil,sesame seed oil and a few others a dont recall off the top of my head

5 days after- i hit them with mighty wash and its good stuff!!

5 days after-i hit them with big time exterminator witch is just for broed and russet mights

5 days after- i use green clean with is amazing!!!

and on my final spray i use a EWC compost tea!!

and just start over from the top every 25 days

this worked super well for me to prevent. if you have them bad in flower spray every 4 days with the big time exterminator , mighty wash and green clean switching up every time and being sure to spray plants intill they are dripping and i mean dripping. for 22 good size outdoor plants i used 20 gals every spray

I'm a big fan of neem, and use it all the time, but I can't help but think you may need something a little stronger, keep in mind you may well intend to inhale these chems you hit your plants with

depending on your skill level and the age of your plants ...I'd consider starting again after a heavy clean down ..consider?

ive been growing for 10 years now. every product i listed is organic but the mighty wash and the green clean i believe has one inorganic ingredient but it is awesome stuff bad for bugs good for plants! and as safe as it gets !. and i would only consider spraying plants two or three weeks in to flower.... but with russet mites i would just toss them because its a waste of time after flower they just hid in the buds. but most people wont haha ! i do not have them this year because at the end of harvest last year i took out all my lawn and any and all plants and hit the whole back yard twice with avid witch i am not a fan of and have never used befor but when you have a hemp russet might problem outdoors its about the only way besides moving witch i just cant do at this time. inside of house was bleached down too. i only had them into flower the first year i had them because they were misdiagnosed and 4 or 5 years ago there wasn't shit online about them and thought i had pretty good pest prevention, those plants were tossed in the can. thats mostly why i made this thread for the people that think its heat stress killing there plants every year. the second year i had them i just used normal preventative measures at first neem and EWC tea folir spray and they field and thats when i started that 25 day program witch would pretty much wipe them out the first 25 days. but they are so small they can be anywhere and every where and will show back up if not kept up on. you ever have a battle with these little guys??/ cause its about the worst thing that can happen to a plant and grower that ive ever seen. besides cops and puck ass kids trying to rip you off that is..

I've had some run-ins with these lil bastards...
the FIRST sign is the "claw"
just like the newbies with their overzealous feeding tendencies...
after that you'll see all the new growth shriveling and turning a brownish, redish color...
lavender works well to kill the eggs, and I used a combination of lavender, and neem with silica to combat them, the lavender works best when you can dunk the plants, works very nicely as a preventative on clones and seedlings.
the big ones I use a fogger...
the reproductive cycle is a lil slower than the two-spot mite, so I did six sprays, three days apart, 3 weeks..
funny enough the russets are pretty much gone... but these damn radioactive, mutated, burly-ass two spot mites are still around....
those damn things laugh at everything...

the FIRST sign is the "claw"
just like the newbies with their overzealous feeding tendencies...
after that you'll see all the new growth shriveling and turning a brownish, redish color...

thought i would shear some pics of a small early harvest force flowered garden about a week out from today. russet might free and sticky as ever!! a white widow soma A+ hybrid dont have them name for it. a banana kush, and a crazy purple pheno of banana kush

3ml Avid with 60ml Azamax in a gallon sprayer with warm water. Do it ONLY in veg, do it twice, ten days apart. Nothing survives- except the plants.

I don't spray anything non organic during bloom.

thank you!! ive used the chain link for a few years now and it seems to produces some huge buds. there lookin good this is the first time ive force flowered and it was a little bit of work to pull traps over them every day. i was looking to be all the way done with it by the 1st of September the bananas are done and are being harvested as i type this, but the hybrid is still 2 weeks out i think i might have to start a week or so early and cover one week later next year

i had to force them i started to cover them with tarps every evening to get the light cycle down a little. i started the 2nd or 3rd week of June i think and would cover them 3 hours be for the sun would go down and uncover as soon as any sun would hit the tarp in the morning. you have to make sure your cover blocks 100 percent of light or they will starch and the buds don't grow right .. when your other outdoor plants start to show sings of flower wait one or two weeks and you can stop covering them with out any starch on the buds or sings of growing out of flower i had to cover them till August 5th so a little over a month . my father has done this for many years but the last few years hes just grown smaller plants in pots and movies them into a dark room witch i think its easier then trying to pull tarps over 8 foot plants in open soil with huge buds but i like big plants and big harvest haha.

Not knocking your technique at all, just curious as to why?
do you have a shitty wet sep and oct?
i'm just thinking those babies could go for another month under the CA sun if they weren't forced early.
May be costing yourself in the yields a lil, unless of course it rains where you are.
I've just never heard of anyone doing that at this time of yr.
again, the plants look great, so there's nothing wrong, just curious is all..
Do you do a double harvest? adding another set after these are done?

i live in the central valley and really no major reason for it just having fun and learning new things. this will be my first august harvest ! i have a regular October harvest right along with thees guys. just trying to get some of them done and out of the way befor the others so its not all done and ready to be harvested all at the same time.. we have a small family circle that grows and helps each other but bedsides that we dont have much help for harvest and really dont like outside help other then 2 good friends. its just more problems then its worth. and its nice to have a little cured up bud to smoke well you harvests the rest and to push befor every one eles dose you know?? but yes they could of put on another pound or more if harvested in October no disagreements here! im thinking ill still get around 2 off each so that's still decent. and like i was sayin i got 30 plants for an october harvest all pushing 12 feet witch is overwhelming at times seeing this will be my biggest grow yet.

my father has done a few light dep green house grows in the past its a little bit of work but hes had some amazing harvest doing it. im not really a big fan of greenhouses unless you live somewhere it rains alot just to much work you have to run fans and the hole nine but if it grows good weed it grows good weed haha!!

shit I feel ya there, that's why I stagger my indoors, so I don't have to get blasted with 70 hrs of trimming all at once.
that's what I HATE about the outdoor crop, it's mostly done all at once... but that's because I only like to run two of my strains outside.
I stagger my indoor stuff every two weeks or three weeks adding three plants.
I go with nine plants at three different stages, beats the hell out of trying to do nine plants all at once.
Central valley huh?
I was born in Modesto, lived in Turlock for a bit.
HATED it there though... That's why I moved to the coast.. hot as hell in the summer, and cold as hell in the winter... plus I kept finding trouble...
