Question about curing and burping with mason jars and hygrometers

Hopefully this will be my last post this season. Everyone here has been incredibly helpful though.

As of now all of my bud it's dried, trimmed and jarred. Crispy on the outside, sticky inside.

I bought some hygrometers but I think they're junk. It was hard to find any that would actually fit in my jars. I got these $3 little blue Accutemp hygrometers. It says Mega Temp RH% on the front of the device.

Doesn't seem like they are working correctly.

My question is simple though: how should I leave the hygrometer in the jar and how long should I open the jar for burping? Do I leave the meter in with the jar open or should I pour the bud out and let it all dry up more?

It seems like it's all dried out so I don't really want to trust these damn things.

Thanks everyone again!

I use the EXACT same hydrometers. They work. Trust your instraments. When you stop trusting them and start going by eye is where people fuck up there harvest. I leave mine in the jars but if the RH is higher then 75 i take all the buds out and hang for a half a day. I used big storage bins first. I put my buds in the black storage bins and get the RH down to where it stays close to 75% then i do my last manicure and into the jars. There i watch the meters and burp any time ot gets high above75. Should only take about 3 - 4 days of burping to get to 65%. Once i get a constant 65% i then leave the kars and check on them every other day; but i DO leave the meters in the jars for the time the bud is in the jars. For $3 its noce to see the RH staying where you want. Way less guess work.
Srry for rambeling on.

Good luck!!!

Hi, with your buds now in jars you have to maintain a level that won't be too dry or humidity. We all have our methods. For many years what I do after I put my harvested buds in jars, I put a pouch of " Boveda Humidipak " in each jar, it keeps and adjust the humidity to a specific level. This eliminates the burping, and eliminates going too dry, regardless of how long you store them.
Hope this helps, write anytime.

Awesome! Thanks for the help! Does it usually take a long time for the meters to set? Left it in over night and the dial was at 70. Opened up the jars about two hours ago and no change at all.

Little blue meters right?

Sounds like a good idea! I'll try and get my hands in some

If the buds feel moist again and clump together, then definitely dump them out into a paper bag, throw in a hygrometer, fold the top over once, then check in 4 - 8 hours. They should be dryer without risk of being overly dry, then you can re-jar them. Repeat as necessary.

Yup there little blue ones. I usually open the jars a few hours at a time. It will drop to 65 or so and stay after a bit of burping. I got 4 jars holding ATM.

As for how long it takes to change is usually 30 mins to 2 hours iv noticed. But mine usually tells me the % in the jars pretty quick. But make sure ur jars are stored in a dark cool place.

I like to start my cute sooner than most about a four day dry on individual branches or until outside feels crisp ........but like mentioned above at first gotta watch em close if the bud starts to clump together and you can actually feel the bud is rehydrated then I like to dump it in a table lined with brown butcher paper il then put another peice over the top of the bud spread out on the table After the buds air out they will feel poky/crispy on the outside then back into cure .....repeat this process until you notice it taking a significant amount more time inbetween this process and the buds are not sticking together like they were before .......then that's when il seal them up tight no longer removing the bud from cure container just burping about every 8 hours for a few minutes depending on container size ......as each day passes il let the bud cure longer and longer in between burps This method has always worked great for me I end up with super sticky dank smelling smooth smoke. Imagine walking in to Starbucks if the coffee was weed just that heavy dank smell that's what I achieve doing this Good luck and never be afraid to ask that's what Riu is here for peace

Look into "Boveda" packs they come in RN's of 62% -65% -70, ect just need to dry product than after drying place in jars with the "Pack" and - you jars will reach your specific RH (62% and 65% norm) curring time 30 +

Yeah the conditions of the room it's in may be effecting it. But what RH% do you usually aim for? I've read different things. I'm thinking anywhere from 50-60% should be good. I've got one jar all ready to go at 58%. The rest are all around 60-70% some sitting at 62%

I use caliber IV hygrometers. When you sell weed, 20 a pop for reliable meters isn't bad. Plus if you use the big mason jars that hold around 4 ozs of my material without risk of mold, 1 hygrometer goes a long way. Check em out

Unfortunately I don't have that much lol. I got four small jars with a half Oz each inside. About 2/3 full. And one big jar with an Oz in it also about 2/3 full. Ain't selling but I wouldn't have a problem spending 20 bucks. Where did you get yours? I was just afraid the big digital ones not fitting my small jars

Its about preference really. But i like mine to be as close to 65% as i can. A little under i dont mind but not much highr at all. So far i have 9 big jars and 9 med jars. I still have 3/4 of the way to go. Need to go out and get a shit ton more jars haha and meters.

The calibers fit it all but the smallest mason jars. I can't think of the sizes right now but the ones that are roughly 4-5 inches tall they fit in even.

I got mine off amazon I believe or ebay. I bought like 10 at a time and havnt had a problem yet besides batteries passing away.

I put them in the jars when thwy are roughly 65-69% and burp them over the course of a few days. They usually rise up a bit, if it goes over 70% i dump them out on a tray for a few hours. Once they get to 60ish you can burp like 1 a week. 59-60%. Then you can store it for months. Hope that helps!

Boveda packs work but the others can be expensive or just go with opening the jars like folks did in the "old days"

Thinking maybe the humidity of the room is affecting it. I've taken the buds out to dry for 6-12 hours twice now and barley no change. Their all close to 70% which is the same as the room I'm burping the jars in. Tried putting them in my cellar but it seems worse. Do you know what rh% the room should be?

Rooms are all differnt RH%. Dark and cool is the best place. Keept out of kight. Im in ontario Canada and its pretty cold and rainy here. My house showes 50-60% ish but when i drop the meters in the jars and check the next morning my jars r arrounf 65-75%. Some holding at 62-65%
