The Nug Machine... Round 3

Res change tomorrow.
As I said earlier, this will be the last time I will be able to remove the plants from the tub for cleaning. Pics, of course !
I have observed closely as I have cleaned my system every week and I gotta tell ya, things are good in the res, both of them.
I'll still clean out the lower res every week, but I think the root tub will be fine.
There is a little residue buildup on air lines and the pump cord but it is not (slime).... the walls of the tubs have very little buildup.
Res temps are good and mostly I add the beneficial bacteria and fungi for their symbiotic relationship with the plant, specifically the ROOTS !!!
See video.

WoW !
Look at those roots !
The dark brown is only a residual buildup of my Humbolts Secret "Golden Tree".
I lightly spray the roots and remove most of that.
Changed, again, the inflow .
And the screen is installed again at the tallest setting.20151016_083433_resized.jpg20151016_090016_resized.jpg 20151016_093116_001_resized.jpg

Fish those roots are insane! Can't wait to go hydro in a few weeks, you wouldn't get even near that amount of roots in traditional growing. My hydro plant will probably catch up with my soil. :D
I know, right?
That's the best roots I've EVER had, and the roots power the plants so I am really stoked !
In dirt, they would most likely be root bound and starving for nourishment, in hydro, it's feeding time ALL the time !
I trimmed a few fan leaves off the lower parts of the AK-47.
PH is set at 5.4.
PPM at 1500.
By next Thurs, the PH will be at 6 and the PPM at 800 - 900.
They are eating well !

Ok,, so I am going hydro on the next grow, and from time to time I hope I can pic your brain as your going along here,,,,
So i get all that you just said,, but why are you lowering the ppm from 1500 down to 900 as you start flower?,, dont the plant need just as many ppm to build flowers and stretch?,,,, Thanks fish

I'm not lowering it, the plants are lowering it by eating the nutrients out of the soup every day, a little bit of evaporation from the system, but a lot of the soup is consumed by the plants and the automatic water valve just pisses a little fresh water back into the system every day, all week, hence diluting it.
Res change and back up to 1500 and watch em eat.
If your flower room temps are a little on the warm side, the plants will naturally drink more water, so in a case like that, you would want to keep your PPMs a little lower so they do not uptake too much nutrients and start burning the leaf tips.
My flower room is MAX 84 degrees so I know by the PPM drop in a week, that it's not from thirsty plants, but hungry plants.
I still have as much volume in the system at the end of the week, just weaker.
I use that on plants around the house etc. when I drain it out.
BUT.... I gotta tell ya, I'm a believer in this TEA !

Got it,
the tea,, you make the stuff,, you buy the stuff ?,,
I put a good handful of Earth Worm Castings (poop) into a knee high nylon stocking and rubber band that to a large round flat air stone.
Drop that into 2 gallons of water and add some Aquashield, GH Sub Culture "B" (Beneficial bacteria) and "M" (Mycorrhizal fungi) and just bubble it (heavily) for 48 hrs and they breed and multiply.
Now you have a concentrated Tea that you add about a cup or so per gallon at res change.
They will die off naturally, so every couple days I will add a bit more, about 1/2 cup per gallon.

NOW.... here is the proof.
Pic taken yesterday right after res change.

Pic taken at 7:00 this morning.... about 20 hours... 12 of which were in the dark...

You be the judge !

I work my way up from the bottom removing fan leaves just sitting in the dark.
I think I am up to the 4th or 5th node on each cola.
I remove the fan leaves but leave the side branches.
Some of these branches are substantial and some are rather wimpy.
I'll give a few days and then cull out the wimpy side branches.
Some of the sides have gotten as tall as the cola they are coming from, those will stay.
