Outdoor virgin

So I've grown a dozen rounds indoor and seem to be getting that down solid. But this summer I want to try a couple plants outdoors, but I haven't a clue what to do.

Couple things to consider... I live quite far north... and putting anything outside before May long weekend isn't wise. Could still snow and often does. Another northern problem is light... through the summer we'll get up to 19 hours of daylight, which is good, but.... on the flip side of that is that come the end of Sept daylight will be reduced to 12 hours where flowering will start, BUT temps can drop below freezing at night and usually do.

So you see the problem there. Is there anyway around that... to get them finished?

And... I want to do them in pots on my back deck where there's lots of sun. What should I use for a medium and for nutes? What about pH?

Anyway, this is mostly an experiment... even if they don't finish I want to see how they grow outside and hopefully I'll be able to at least make some hash out em...

Always good or safer to use an auto flowering female for outdoor grows. Might be something you wanna invest in?

Force flower with a black out tarp.

Veg indoors, throw outdoors when it warms up. Force flower early july, and finish early sept.
I was thinking of this...

But.... dont you have to cover it the same time everyday? Or wont it stress out or even reveg?

That could be a problem for me... at least one night a week i get home late....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your gonna flower way sooner then sept. when your day light hours are just hitting 12.

From when the day light tops at 19 hours and starts going down, I think the plants get a signal to start flowering?

I dunno maybe.... from growing inside and flipping from 18/6 straight to 12/12 you dont really get to see ...

I mean it could be that once the plant senses a decrease it daylight hours the bloom hormones kick in, but at what point? 14 hours, 15, 13...????

I'm close to you. I've grown northern lights, ss early bud, blueberry, and skywalker og outdoors with success. It's a battle with frost every year. I usually wait until June 1st to plant. But I have my seedlings started right now. Good luck.

autos are an option for a quick early harvest imo. Also if you live in the city with street lights everywhere that may herm a photo

I would think 16 or 17 honestly. Again I am not positive on that.

Ah... yes of course...lol

Say... so when do they start flowering?
Usually mid-late July is when they start flowering, and finish mid-late September. Though my skywalker og and blueberry do not finish until first week of october, which is pushing it, some years I can take them to full maturity, other years I have to cut the loss and chop early due to frost/mold.
