I really don't see how these fixtures would stay cool. I don't see any heat sinks???

It would probably be in everybody's best interest just to stick with RIU folks. IMHO.

if you look closer at the pics it has heatsinks AND fans so it should be fine.not a bad price on the 16 cob blondes,too close together imo

Yeah seen the fans, guess I missed the sinks (it would have to have something to keep it from instantly frying the unit)... I agree awful close... I may send them a request for more information on this/these units.

Yeah, but scrogging in a dwc is kinda hard unless you get creative. Unless you are able to raise the scrog at the same time as you lift up the net cups you wont be able to clean and change the buckets. I would top them instead. Or you could do what I did in my picture above, Drill holes into the side of the netcups and tie the flowers on one end and run the string into the drilled holes in the net cup to tie them down. When I lift up the net cups to change my buckets the canopy stays the same.

The solar storm is very good for a hobby grow. But the way they advertise their light output is a little misleading. The PAR rating is a measure of photons (light) produced over a given area. It's the highest at the center of the light and then diminishes towards the edge. Solar storm takes a infinitesimally small area at the exact center and uses that to advertise their output. This is sort of misleading and that the consumer will think it is much better than all other lights. While I think it's a good product for a hobby grow I'd advise you to check out this video before spending a lot of money.

I've been using the spyder x plus from fluence. It draws 683W and is advertised as performing equal to a 1200W MH / HPS. I bought it for $1750. I'm growing 4 white widow plants from attitude seeds in DWCs using the flora series nutrients in a 4x4 tent. I vegged for 3 weeks and am at the start of week 3 in flower. Pics attached. So far I'm happy.
Week 4 in flower. Now a comment on heat production. I have a 5x5 running a 1000W HPS downstairs. The temperature outside the tent is 62 and the temp inside the tent is 88 so my 1000W HPS is producing a 26 degree temperature increase. Upstairs where I have this LED light the temperature outside my tent is 74 and the temperature inside my tent is 82, thats a 8 degree difference compared to a 26 degree difference for my 1000W HPS. Another way of putting it, my downstairs is 12 degrees cooler than my upstairs but my upstairs tent is still 6 degrees cooler with this LED. And I've noticed much healthier roots as root rot has been a big problem for me. I'm very happy with this light. Its the real deal. After I post my yield I'm going to finance another light. Its $1750 but I pay $135 a month for it. So I will get my extra yield way before I have to finish paying for this light.

so that's how well the new spyder X grows. Penetration looks good, but hard to see ? Amazing how a bunch of wee little diodes work so well.

Interesting for the specific goals mentioned. The Sun Light version is for supplementing hps or high red led with daylight and/or practical advantages of high color recognition (plant diagnose, breeding colorful flowers...).

Just as this one, the Grow Light version, is more interesting for supplementing daylight (in for example green houses) with for the plant more efficient blue and high red:

It's lacking FR and obvioulsy something people can "beat" with diy but that is a nice looking fixture.

Hubbell Lighting improves NutriLED horticultural LED luminaire with more wavelengths

Introduced as a breakthrough in horticultural technology in early 2015, NutriLED was one of the first to use LED technology to provide light for plant growth and development in indoor horticulture applications. The technology has evolved to establish the industry standard for those who are converting high-pressure sodium (HPS), metal halide and fluorescent lighting in their operations to more efficient LED sources.

What's New?
Originally the NutriLED was offered to customers with a blend of red and blue wavelengths and light intensities that were ideal for vegetative growth but not flexible enough for flowering growth. The research team at Hubbell Lighting has developed an updated version of the NutriLED product that increases the level of light intensity for high light plants and adds far-red wavelength to improve productivity. The "Flowering Spectral Mix" diagram below shows how the far-red wavelength has increased.

In one pilot study featuring this new version of the NutriLED, a customer has benefited from flowering beginning a full two weeks earlier than normal, a 25 percent increase in the yield and a bigger flowering bud.

"When we originally developed NutriLED, our goal was to provide a high performance horticultural fixture that would improve and enhance indoor, greenhouse and vertical farming," said Dr. Yan Ren-Butcher, horticultural staff scientist and Hubbell Lighting's resident expert in the field of indoor and greenhouse farming. "Having achieved that goal, we began investigating how we could improve the product further with the end customer in mind. The new flowering mix can enhance flowering in a variety of species and provides flexible options for customers who need higher light intensity."

NutriLED customers have responded favorably to the expertise of Dr. Ren-Butcher and her ability to design lighting layouts specific to their operations in regards to light intensity. For example, Dr. Jeffrey Adelberg, Professor of Horticulture at Clemson University, called on Dr. Ren-Butcher to assist in the design of lighting layouts for his microgreen research to identify optimal light intensity.

The vertical farming industry in particular is one that has undergone significant growth over the last year. It's no secret that the advent and deployment of new technologies like LEDs have had an influential role in this trend. While the idea of using LEDs to grow plants isn't new, NASA was investigating it back in the 1980s, the technology has improved, the production price has decreased and studies show that results with LEDs are equivalent to traditional light sources.

The advantage of NutriLED is the 64 percent energy savings over traditional non-LED grow lights, increased maintenance savings and a significant drop in waste. For example, as a direct result of significantly reducing the radiant heat produced by conventional lighting technology, water usage can also be reduced, and the need for supplemental HVAC cooling loads may be completely eliminated in some applications.

The new spider is a COB. I've been looking at videos on how to make your own COB. They get their diodes from Orsam in Germany. I thought about getting a vendors license so I could order the diodes at wholesale cost and making one.
