What light would you get?

Okay. So when I started this venture I had a plan. I was going to piece stuff together as I go and research along the way. My room is complete other than the exhaust fan, which I will get this weekend. I have had some clones for 2 weeks now under t5 lights.
My question is what should I buy for a flowering light? Realistically it's going to be 2 weeks before I have the cash and it will be $500 max. My room is 9'tall by 6'×6'. I have been leaning toward a double ended 1000 watt fixture. I just have a hard time making up my mind some times.

I would go with 2 x 600w for sure. You will get more light coverage then you would a single 1000w.

hard to beat the de lights, i've seen what they can do. saying that, the 2 600's would be awesome too. you always have a light if 1 takes a shit and u will prolly yield about the same as the 1000 de.

That's kinda what makes this decision hard. 2 600 watts sounds good because there is always going to be one working no matter what.

Would 4 cobs be enough for my area? 6'×6'. I'm definitely not afraid of doing the work. I can do all that shit, it just costs more than hid hps.

What about 1 grow light (600 watt) and about $200 or so Track Rail ( Gualala Robotics Inc) thing. They sell them on Amazon and other places.

I know an older guy who is good at Sea of Green (SOG) and he likes the track rail. Your electricity costs will be less.

Thanks for all the replies. I haven't purchased a light yet. I will this weekend. I'm leaning toward a 1k double ended hps with an air cooled hood. Unless someone talks me out of it.

First make sure that you have ventilation and cooling down pat, then don't fuck around man. Gavita 1000 watt DE is $425 well spent and with the synergystic effect of adding multiple Gavitas, along with 2 year effectiveness of bulb, it's really a no brainier. There is no substitute.

Air cooled hid lights lose something like 10% output. They're designed to be used at high temps...not cooled.

What Chunky Stool said is true....if you're OK with potentially used gear.

Imho 1k in a 6x6 is enough for a hobbyist.
It worked for 23 in 11 4 gal before for me....
First good run just under an elbow.
Doubled the light bill keeping it at 75 due to radiant heat.

Go with the 1000 watt double ended like your first instinct told you. Grow these plants to harvest in your room. Don't be fussing with two 600s for a 6 x 6 area

Are you talking about the lumen loss due to the glass? That's more than made up for by the fact that you can place the hood a lot closer to your plants, better penetration than non air cooled.
