US military confirms it is investigating what could be one of the worst incidents of civilian deaths by coalition forces

At least 85 civilians, including almost a dozen children, have been killed after US air strikes targeted an area in northern Syria held by Islamic State (Isis/Daesh) fighters, a monitoring group has said.

Some eight families were reportedly wiped out in the IS-controlled village of Tokhar near Manbij on Tuesday (19 July), in what could be one of the deadliest bombings of civilians by coalition forces since the start of operations in the country.

The Turkey-based Syrian Institute for Justice said it feared the death toll could be far higher as rescuers continued to pull bodies from the rubble. Photographs of the aftermath showed several half-buried children being retrieved.

The US military confirmed it had conducted air strikes in the area and said it was investigating claims of civilian deaths.

"If the information supporting the allegation is determined to be credible, we will then determine the next appropriate step," the statement said. It added that the US military takes "all measures during the targeting process to avoid or minimize civilian casualties".

A second monitoring group, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, believed the air strikes were carried out in error after pilots mistook the civilians for IS fighters. It also reported a separate incident, on Sunday, in which six civilians in Manbij were killed by a coalition air strike, "including a woman with four of her children and an old man".

It's war. It is being conducted by humans. Mistakes happen.

It isn't terrorism because it isn't done with the intent instill terror; it wasn't intended to kill them at all. There has never been a war where innocent people didn't die as a result. Often intentionally, at least we try to avoid it.

ISIS is the reason for their deaths, because that's who is causing the war.

We are the good guys. We aren't throwing homosexuals off of roof tops. We aren't burning people alive in cages. We aren't lining people up in long rows and executing them like animals.

Source? Or are you just talking out of your ass?
You know it's true. I know in most, but I feel fine in saying in all wars the US has faught that the enemy was either or both more cruel to civilians or killed them in greater numbers than the US armed forces. Sure you can find men who snap in a pressure situation and do something crazy. Mistakes get made. But it is never policy that civilian deaths are OK.

I know you're in the deep South, but have you forgotten the Border War?

In the "Civil War" the enemy was Us, and it's still regarded as the most bloody war in our history.

The fact that we were fighting ourselves makes that one not part of the group for these purposes.

Lets give them 85 of our civilians. I'm sure we can find some volunteers...

Or maybe a card. Cards are nice. Throw in a couple coupons, boom, all is fair.

According to the republican "leadership" (lol), Syria will get its 85 American civilians. It's only a matter of time.
