How would you improve public education?

Cost is not an issue. If it were up to you, what changes would you implement to improve the quality of public education?

Make it free...

But base the funding on verifable results.

Your University gradutes 250 Art students? Your funding is fucked next year.

100 doctors, 100 engineers, 100 Comp Sci, 200 nurses and 400 mixed discipline scientists? Let me get my cheque book.

I was thinking communications degrees, but agree all the same. Its not hard to "communicate" if they want fries with their meal, doesn't require a degree.

No homework for the younger kids. I dont take my work home with me, why the fuck does my 10 year old have an hour of homework after school is over? Should be chasing bugs and riding bikes after school.

No tenure. You were a great teacher 15 years ago, but you are fucking up so you are fired, next in line who gives a fuck is up. Education is too important to have hacks running the show.

Adjust how property taxes are distributed so the poorer communities have the same schooling opportunities as the wealthier communities.

You want your kids to have homework, it helps. What exactly is an hour of homework ?

1) Cease funding them via force, forced funding of something a person has no choice in, is by definition extortion

2) "allow" competitive models to exist, in a free market environment, competition increases innovation

3) get government out of it, since a forcibly mandated "education" is a misnomer, it's really an indoctrination

4) Dig up Horace Mann and give him a posthumous hanging

Not at 10 when they just spent 7 hours being drilled by their teacher. Reading for 30-60 mins is one thing and we make them do that anyway, but worksheet after worksheet that adds up to an hour plus each day after school? WTF are they going to learn busting those out that they didn't already learn in class?

Besides, the Finnish school model is kicking "merica's ass left and right. Less to no homework during the younger years is more beneficial.

No, public school.

Each teacher is so drastically different. Go from one teacher that gets it done inside the school hours and the class as a whole does very well on standardized testing, then the same group of kids the following year with a different teacher who loads them down with homework and their scores drop.

Thinking some of these teachers aren't really teaching.

Kids fail at school mostly because their home life sucks, and their parents are morons or absent. Vouchers to send k-12 kids to private schools would help for those kids who have parents that give a fuck about their kids.

Tinkering with public schools is not going to fix that.

What grade did you start to have problems?
I would take common core out of the system which is slowly going away..
And replace it with what?

Home work is a must in my household. You come in the house without homework, Daddy will must certainly create some for ya. I also will not allow a grade lower than a B. My children learned this at a young age. We have zero problems now.

Put a break between every class, remove religion and put as a subject in history class. I would rework math to be focused on things you can actually use in your day to day life. Taxes, how businesses work etc. Perhaps rework all classes so it's applicable to the real world.

Also, the cafeteria would be mostly healthy stuff, planned meals etc. But with a day or two a week with deserts or stuff like pizza or hotdogs burgers etc. Currently school food is horrible, bad carbs don't exactly help you stay awake and pay attention.

Also physical classes, not sure what they're called. But have one every second day. Some days it would be about nutrition, how food works, etc. Other days it would be practical stuff. Cardio, some weight lifting, gymnastics.
