Benefits of not topping?

Well for one thing if you have a small tall space single colas are great, testing strains is cool doing one colas and seeing what the side branching will do, like me if you have a sativa you want to control, I leave it single cola and train then up my ladders for 4 weeks and then flip, I can do a good sativa in 5'10" of vertical space. I will single cola strains I want for me personally, so they get the most nutrients threw the stem to the top as the can. Some strains do not like being topped, they will fuss and slow down to no end bitches lol. Then you get the opposite my Neon Creep just dont slow down for anything, I had to drop the lights it still wont reveg for me, if by the weekend its still not showing signs its getting 24 hr worth of light for a week. frekin monster Genetics LOL.

taller plant, less side branching. Usually topping is used to get a plant to "bush" out. Also, when you top it, it changes the plants apical dominance. This is the christmas tree look. topping is great for prepping for scrogging, or just lst'ing, by tying your main branches down.

LOL nice. yeah I was wondering about not topping so there's no delay in growth. but my sativa Nicole looked like it made her even stronger. Ellie(indica) and Nicole are about 3 days apart from birth but Ellie slowed up so much she didn't take well to topping but she is picking up after a week now from a top then a main_line.

Thing is don't know who's female or male so I will start budding them soon. actually today when then sun decides to dip I'll start the cycle.

Thanks for the feed back bro. right now it looks like I got 4 indica and 1 sativa. from what I've seen I might just top sativas and let indicas grow naturally since they slow up so much it's kinda inconvenient.

Not much benefit at all to not top them. the only way I run one without topping is if its an auto.

I top everything else at least once.

Sativa vs indica has nothing to do with topping slowing them down. One of the slowest growing plants that hated topping was a pure sativa.

You most likely have hybrids. Hybrids have hybrid vigor and will grow faster than land race pure strains.

Topping increases yield and saves height.

A pure sativa will need to be topped as they get real leggy.

If you do single cola plants I would run more plants and 12/12 from seed.

If just running a few go ahead and top them at least once.

I usually throw them into 12/12 for 2 weeks to force sex, if i am unsure then reveg and clone if I am keeping mothers.

Yeah it is I do it every time I need to sex plants, then I pull them back into veg, usually takes another 2 weeks to reveg for me then I can take clones of girls for the next run, or males go to flower in the pollen tent. I am usually checking every day after week one for changes then pull as soon as I can determine for fact the sex, I screwed up a call one run and ended up with a male in the back of the tent I had to eradicate lol.

They would show sex in about 4 weeks anyways. all will show 4-6 weeks from seed.

If I have to sex them I label each one and then top. I put each top in a cup of water with corresponding number. Put the tops under a cfl 12/12 and they will live long enough to show sex and the main plants don't have to slow down.

Mine didn't always show the sex in 4 weeks of veg, so I got into the habit of sexing them to speed things up. I just cut the Neon Creep and just put the tops in kelp juice off to the side of the lights, that used to root them everytime. Now that I have more time to grow I can get back to learning some new techniques, I like the not stressing them part.

Dude that looks amazing!

Is that 1 plant?

What size pot you using?
Yup one plant in a 6 gallon pot, probably 5 gallons full of soil. I use coated gardening wire ties and tie the top down CAREFULLY when once it seems necessary. After a few days usually more branches need to be tied down and so on. Eventually most of the branches are tied down nearly horizontal to keep an even canopy. About 4 weeks into flowering I don't have to adjust any of the ties and I get a plant that looks like a giant round bush with a flat top. I also only remove fan leaves if they're shading bud sights, otherwise they stay on through the entire time.

I usually veg until the plant shows it's pre flowers. In this case 4 1/2 weeks I flipped to 12/12 and she finished at 9 1/2 weeks of flowering.
