The earth's climate changes all the time. Mankind is just a blip on the radar of earth history. We got lucky to find that decayed plants and animals left us a huge energy source. We can live in reasonable comfort due to that, but not for centuries. Mankind is a temporary thing. It has maybe 100 years left tops. Just don't reproduce, is my advice. The US has one of the world's largest super volcanoes rumbling away in Yellowstone. Sure would take everybody's mind off climate change caused by humans if that sucker ever lets go.

Well, considering that everyone in the US would be dead, I doubt Trump would be any help. It would be a planet-wide disaster, not a local one like Katrina or the Japan tsunami. I guess if some people were in underground military complexes they might survive, but it would probably be a fate worse than instant death itself.

Well, considering that everyone in the US would be dead, I doubt Trump would be any help. It would be a planet-wide disaster, not a local one like Katrina or the Japan tsunami. I guess if some people were in underground military complexes they might survive, but it would probably be a fate worse than instant death itself.

Wouldn't kill everyone but quite a few depending on how big the explosion is and which way the wind is blowing when it happens. It would however blow so much dust into the atmosphere that the world would be plunged into a period of much cooler temps with massive global crop failures and the resulting die-off from famine, rioting and likely wars that would erupt as everyone fights to survive.

On the plus side it would totally kick global warming's ass. The glaciers would begin to rebuild, sea levels would drop and there would be a lot less people competing for what are becoming scarce resources like fresh water, food and decent air to breathe.

As long as the nuclear powers don't go nuts and nuke the planet the centuries to follow such a catastrophe should make the world a much nicer place to live. The depleted oceans would refill with renewed life. Pollution will become a story in the history books assuming there is enough people left to bother writing such books. Climate change will revert to being "weather" again and "fast food" will be that deer you just missed with your bow and arrow.

There were 4 or 5 mass extinction events that led to us being here in the first place so it's only fair that we eventually get one and if we go extinct it will be millions of years before another "intelligent" specie arises to take our place. Sure hope they are smarter than us. We might be an intelligent specie but we sure aren't a smart one.

Along with many others, I'm working in my basement lab to make indoor gardening a viable option for future generations to give us a fighting chance against such a catastrophe.

Pinatubo and St Helens were both big enough to have a global impact on climate, that lasted for a couple of years.

one time years back
I had to do some met exams very heavy stuff

at the time was the consideration that if there was a nuke war in the northern hemisphere

what is the possibility of the radiation working its way to the south

at the time 70/80's the deal was it was rare and usual

but with recent changes we see that it is indeed possible

as the jet stream does ride the equator Both Sides

often overlapping each other
