How does yield and light work?

Hey guys, im back.
I understand the part about wattage and yield. My wattage x 0,5 or 1,0
But... I was looking around on royalqueenseeds and found this picture below.
1. It says that the plant can yield almost 700grams outside and can yield about 75g under a 600w hps. This gives no sence for me, since it should yield about 300 or more under a 600w hps as i was told.
Can anyone explain this?

2. If this formula is still speaking truth.. Then we agree about its not a "formula" for autos, right?
Formula: (wattage + wattage + wattage) x 0,5 or x 1,0

Bro, the best, straight up info for me has been from the Grow Boss on YouTube. Yield is a function of light+space. He can break it down, straight up.

I wouldn't put much faith in yield estimates from seed vendors . They're basically salesmen, keep that in mind. I would compare it to estimated gas mileage on a new car. The window sticker could say it get's 30 mpg, but different driving habits people have can cause those numbers to be a lot different. It's the same with growing, to many variables that affect yield and flowering times.

How about this. If a plant only gets 45w in Veg. And then gets 90w in flower. Would yields be noticeably decreased? Or is that of little importance?

the yield estimates are always under perfect conditions. the inside estimates they give you are for a sea of green under a 1k hps light. unless you're an experienced grower with the same set up, you aint getting close to that estimate.
a plant takes up a certain physical space while its growing. if you train them as you would for a sea of green, you can fit more plants in the area, but they yield less per plant. if you take it to the extreme, you can get more from doing this, but its a labor intensive growing style. you can get about 3/4 as much growing big healthy plants in the same area, doing a lot less work, and facing a lot less trouble if you get caught.

if you're talking per square foot, both are overkill, if you're talking total, it very much depends on how its delivered.
as far as i've been able to tell, anything over about 75 watts per square foot is wasted, i noticed hardly any difference between a plant getting 90 per square foot and one getting 60.
the whole thing here is we're not using a very good metric to measure light, watts per square foot is becoming meaningless in an arena with cobs, h.i.d. and quantum boards all fighting it out.
ppf and ppfd are the best units, but unless you have an expensive meter designed to work with leds its impossible to get that reading. they measure the number of photons hitting the surface area, ppd measures the raw number of photons emitted by the lights, and ppfd the number of photons hitting the surface per square meter.

FWIW. Forget the seed vendor estimates. 1000 watt in a 5x5 can give you 1.5lb dry if you have a proper veg. 400 watt in a 2x4 can give you a 0.5 Lb dry, with a 200 watt veg. 600 watt in a 3x5 can give you 1 lb dry with a 400 watt veg. Of course veg times can impact all this. Bushy plants, fill the space. If you aren't filling the space, lower your expected yield. The next factor is frequency, that is dependent on how many grow areas you have and your rotation. From seed...could take 4 months with only one grow area. Those are supposed to be average numbers, if you fill the space, even canopy, and don't screw up too bad, but also is not intended to be a perfect grow. Space is important, because you can only fit so much plant material in so much space. I think this is a decent rule of thumb of what can be achieved.

I think the only use of seed vendor numbers is to compare against the same vendor's other products to see what they consider heavy or light yielders.

Noticeably Decreased. You will obviously not be using HID lights, and not have the penetrating power to grow tall colas with intense light top to bottom. My understanding is yield is a function of light and space, and quality of light is as important as wattage. I can put 600 watts of cfl in the same space as a HPS, the yield will not be the same. Low watt LED, not my area of expertise. Those lights are difficult to measure, and vary in penetration and spectrum based on design. The wattage equivalent marketing techniques blur the lines of what to expect. HID is tried and true IMO.

Hmm.. I think i understand most parts about light & space now. Ty guys
I have thousands of unknown seeds, but i know its sativa, and they grow pretty tall.
So I have a little "for fun" question: How much do you think is the shortest a veg can be? I have lost of plants right now outside, but since im waiting for my rqs seeds, i would just grow these random seeds indoor. But do you think veg after 2 months is enough? Just for a few grams for fun

Form my experience your yield is based on your space and light intensity.

For intensity you want 30-50w per sqft.
At 30w your not going to get much penertation so would be closer to 0.5g per w.
At 50w you'll get a few inches penetration so get closer to 1g per w.
Any higher and ur just wasting power.

Like wise with space. If you only 80% or less fill the room your wasting power.

Plant count is how quick you will fill that space. Have two plants fill it in half the time

THANKS FOR COMMENTING GUYS! Very helpful, but also a little confusing with so much data and that :P

Majins:
Thank you for your comment. I understand what u mean about wattage per sqft and g pr wattage, BUT..
I dont know what light he is using in the video, but he used nutrients, good soil mix, and all that.. His final results was 12g from the one plant and 24g from the other one. This gives no sence?
And: If i understand u right about your last part... You mean that maybe it would be better to have 2 plants in the tent to fill out the space, so less energy from the light is wasted. Right?

Thanks :)

Nugachino: I can take a picture of my plant tommorow, and maybe u can judge if it is wayy to early to flower? I just need a few grams to smoke for fun. Like i said: This is an unknown seed i got from the buds from "my dealer", bad buds..

One was smaller since they would be fighting for light and space.
If he had grown just 1 plant it would of been 36g just from that one but he would of had to veg for maybe 2 weeks more.

Sorry for all my questions. Im just trying to learn how much yield i can get indoors, but i get confused with formulas, videos and so on.. :)

here is the thing when grow just a few plants. you will want to veg longer. and you should do some sorta training. super cropping is a great way to get them most out of one or two plants,. if you are able to fill every inch with a potted plant . then sea of green will bang out the best.. also . what type of lighting you are using?? temp. and humidity as well as what nutes you are using. all play into total yield aswell type of strain used.... bag seeds are hit or miss. this is a decent set up. and should get more than 28 g per plant

I just thought that if id' say the real wattage.. people would think that would be the conversion watts.

Beginning of next month im going to buy a tent, but i dont know what size i should go for? 18x18" sounds fine 2 me right now
I am planning on buying a 200w CFL for sale for about 33 euro. Pretty cheap.
But it is for flowering (2700k), so i dont know. Do you think that would be a stupid choise? Or should i spent my money on a maybe 85-125w cfl (6500k) for veg?
Get your self a 250/400w hps/mh and you'll spend about the same cash as the cfls etc.... just a thought.!)plus use cfls you have got for side lighting .. good luck happy growing
