What about this light schedule with far red.

I am getting ready for my fourth run indoors. I have a Kind 750 for the main light (I know you guys love those...) there are some 15w sidelights, a 200w "full spectrum cob" homemade fixture at the far end and a 100w homemade led light bulb fixture at the front. That is a total of about 775 w for a 60" x 40" area. My plan was to run a 11 / 13 cycle with 5 min of far red at sunup and 15 min after light out. Sound reasonable? I have 2ea) sky og and 2ea) crystal candy ready to go in.

Here are some pics of the setup. After I bought the Kind and side lights I learned about quantum boards and cobs. The cob fixture was my first attempt with e-bay stuff. The lightbulb fixture was the first thing I tried to build. Right now I have 4 qb120 3000k boards and some 24" 3000k strips that I'm working with to make something else.

Here is the flower room with lights on, pics of my other quantum board fixtures, 2ea) 5000k, 2ea) 3000k. Also 1/2 the veg room under the 4000k quantums.

No. Don't use any far red at lights ON. It is to put the plants to sleep.

Run lights for 11hrs, turn on far red 1 to 3 minutes before lights turn off and have them stay on for about 15 minutes after they have turned off. This will put them to sleep allowing you to keep your lights off for 13 hours. Then turn your lights on normally. Maybe even use your dimming up feature of your kind

Thks, I was thinking the 5 min would be like sunrise.

1) Why?
2) wtf and why?
3) not even slightly. where do you get these ideas?

1) because I read about getting better results using less than 12 hrs in the "far red thread".

2) My thought was the 5 min in the am would be like sunrise, the 15 at lights out would put them to sleep.

3) ok, then instead of a very uninformative answer, what do you think? All my limited indoor knowledge is from reading on this site. That's why I asked hoping that someone who knows something would have useful comments.

better results come from better room controls, feeding habits, equipment, c02 etc. 12/12 is your best bet. There are no tricks to better results or else we all would use them as normal. your plants grow to their weakest resource, what is yours?
I suggest downloading a grow bible and sticking with proven techniques. http://catnews.org/FREE Pot Books/

my garden wasnt successful to my expectations until I stopped following internet advice and read my first grow bible.

not satisfied with the last 3 grows? why? maybe we can help improve it without strange lights and schedules

Thanks, I've pretty much just learned from this site. I have been an outdoor for the last 30+, just wanted to try something new. My last three were 12/12, turned out pretty good but not looking like some of the ones I see on here, the last was the worst, i think cause my room temp got too high and the humidity was really low. I did just get a better temp control system to regulate the fan speed now the room is staying between 75 / 85. I do very little feeding so that is something that may help. I know everyone (nearly) bashes Kind but that's what I have now, maybe i'll go to just quantum boards and see if its the light. I am also making a new 200w fixture with cmx22 3000k cobs now.

I thought the far red to put to sleep was for more sunlight hours? Getting the benefit of a couple extra hours for photosynthesis wile maintaining the flowering light cycle. Or sticking to the 12/12 and potentially shaving a couple days off of finish.

Far Red is circadian for sleep for wake up you need Deep Red 700nm vs Far Red 730nm

yes. airwalker has it backwards. by using far red you can cut the dark cycle to 10-11 hours if you wish which lets you flower longer days on same schedule of flowering weeks

people using far red with 12 hour nights report reduced flowering time (riper a few days earlier)

Here is the flower room now. I think the quantums will definitely help. I think the cob fixture witl either be replaced with the new 200w cxm22 fixture I'm making or another 2 qb120 fixture like I just added. Here are the new girls.

Have the girls ready to go in tonight. There will be 2 crystal candy and 2 skunk #1, trimmed all the lower stuff off and am going to feed them a little more this round. I'll post some pics soon. We'll see if the 11 / 13 with the 730 nm red works out.

Here they are, the last pic is 3 hours later, perking up.

Tweaked the lights a little by adding another 120 quantum fixture at the far end and moving the cob light to the side, I post some pics tomorrow. The output is about 48w per sq ft so that may be too much. Girls look very perky tonight.

You can use far red 5 minutes before lights are off and even more. The only thing you have to be cautious about is far red and red ratios... If the amount of far red reaches some point in relation with red (think is 660nm..but can be other red wavelenghts maybe), the plant will start stretching....
Remember HPS has its own far red and if you add more it will be added, normal white based leds have almost nothing, so a little far red radiation wont do any harm unless you put too much and plants start to elongate.
Dont use far red with lights on if your main light source lacks greens (like some full spectrum chinese leds, or citizen horticultural blue-red, or monocolor(blue-red fixtures) I think that the reason is that green light reaches best the intracanopy and avoids that the only light that go into were mostly far red.
Far red also can be used when lights are on at the end of flowering cycle, there some studies about spectrum absoption of cannabis in late flowering time(fall) and they show there is and increase of far red absorption at this point of flowering.
There is also the issue of Emerson effect...which is not very well studied.
For reduce flowering times or increase flowering hours far red only works after main lights are off.
Far red do its job, and if you take in count strain variables and you dial your light regime you will be satisfied.
Check growmau YouTube videos about light regimes, there is a good example about using far red at different growing stages.
Far red is more effective reducing flowering times tan increasing flowering hours, for the last(increase production), try to increase PPFD
