What are most commercial grow facilities using as there light choice? Let’s say from 500sqft-1500? And is there a common decision as far as grow medium goes.

DE hid is the most popular but LED would be a wise investment if you can afford them.

The 3phase units hey specification chart says they draw about 2 1/2 Amps

I am using stacked 315W CMH and coco, in vertical grows, don't thing commerical growers use this method.

ive always ran HIDs.. it was outdoor security lights, then 400's and 430's, then 1k's.. ran 600's of course too.. i prefer 1k's bc of covereage and penetration.. The 1k has always been the industry standard in the black market US and the 600 is the standard in europe. u may come across a 430 room in holland or belguim still to this day, but i doubt it. most everyone is running 600's..
When it comes to gray market, the venture capitalists rooms ive seen run HIDs.. most are standard bulbs, ive seen a few running DE.. becoming more and more common.. But good liighting must be used properly.. hardly none of them are lighting thier rooms correctly.. obvious errors such as bulb orientation, distance from the canopy and bulb spacing.. Most of the dudes that hold the 1000 or so commecial permits are idiots.
Ive seen some LED rooms, but only in photos and i dont know much about them..
I have been reading up on those black dogs that are supposed to destroy a 1k HPS.. they cost like 3 grand each.. If they work, sure you'll save $$ over time, but i dont know how i feel about hanging tens of thousands of dollars from the ceiling..

i have 315's as well, they are the only "modern" piece of tech i have.. (still trying to learn about LEDs and DIY cobs).. I use the 315s in specific scenarios, like to burn though generations in smaller sectioned-off areas, or for testing out soemthing.. Sometimes science calls for setting up multiple 3x3 tents or using panda film to section off an area, to test something or whatever.. Instead of using a shit-ton of CFL's or like a 400 or 600 i can rely on the 315's.... i love them, they dont get as hot as 400/430 but produce the equivalent (in my mind) to what a hypothetical 450 or 500w HID would do.. they work great, and have thier purpose and place.. .. but i dont use 315's for big runs. they simply dont have the penetration i want. I still always rely on trusty 1k hps's for production runs man.. veg under 1k mh's at 24/0.. flwr under 1k hps's..

You too should check out Merlin's 50,000 sqft. CMH run. Very impressive.
You are right you cannot compare 315W to a 1000 HPS, but you can do two 315's and compare the HPS to the CMH.
What are you turning with the MH and HPS combo?

Yes, . ive found that two 315 lamps will out-perfrom a 600, but u have to account for the lower penetration.
i have ran 315 through the paces before.. did sog runs with 315s, (6.5" squares at 36 per m2) depending on strian, i'd pull 8-14oz per lamp. avereage 12zips, which equals a little over zip or so per sqft. or average 9g a plant or so..for a 6,7, or 8wk strain that means over the benchmark, or 0.5gpw per 30days. on a 10-12wk haze, the figures were a little lower, bc u of the extra days..
So yes, i can say firsthand that they work great and that with a fore-thought, one can get the benchmark of 0.5gpw per 30days.. just got to acount for thier size and capabilities, know yur strains, know how to veg accordingly to your particular lamp.. ,
But still, to me personally, i'd rather hang less lights that are more powerful.. it's matter of perferance, really..
re: 1k's the whole time.. when it comes to production, u cant play around with 18/6 or using shoplights to veg. u want big plants, fast. never turn yur veg lamp off. only 1x every 6-8months to change the bulb. . an 8wk strain (50 day strian let go another 6 days) should pull around a kilo per lamp. which is: close to, or right at, or slightly above, the benchmark of 0.5gpw per 30days. 30-40 zips per 1k lamp. if im not getting At Least that, lol, things are seriously wrong, lol. ive fallen asleep at the wheel or something, lol!

as far as weights off 315s go, he says he pull 1gpw..
i take that to mean 1gram per watt used for the total time? or 315grams per lamp?
which in my terms translates to mean that he gets 0.5gpw per 30days, which is close enough to what i got when i ran 315s, average 12zip per lamp (336g). he's probably getting a little less b/c his math isn't comparable (gpw isnt accurate measure), from pix he's running chemdawg heavy strains all of which take minimum 9weeks(and really, to be proper-done they all need like 10 or 11wks), and lights are way too high.. but he's close enough to 0.5 for all intents and purposes,ya know what i mean?
but the point is, Yes, u can run a shit-ton of 315's in a warehouse and be successful.. as with any type of light, you got to factor in other things like total cost upfront, and how long youre vegging, how many plants your running and what size (like 12" clones or 36" wide bushes) -Along w/ lighting choices, all those things are part of the same equation. And, really, the type of light (CFL, HID, LED, COB) shouldn't matter all that much. as long as you're getting 0.5 gpw per 30days, you're doing good.

Dude I am very stoned now, Barneys Farm LSD, so the numbers you have thrown out here are just a blur,
I am a personal grower, no sales so three to five plants are about what I am into. I am more interested in getting a good product with decent weights, I make Cannabis Oil, so I try and do two grows a yr. Running the two 315's in my 4x4 with more than enough light and far less heat issues and cost. And I believe that is what most of us hobby growers are looking for.
I've run 60 plus zips on 11 plants over my last my last 3 grows, two vertical and one horizontal. Has allowed me to meet my smoking and CO for my meds. So all is good.
You are so right, that weight is totally dependent on strain and technique.
One of the 5 plants in my G13 Haze vertical grow, about two weeks prior to harvest.

If I had of seen this before I setup, I’d probably have 315s instead of DE1000s
But I’d probably have 10-12 vs 4 de1000s
I think once everything is turned on you’ll get more because of the numbers of lamp and the casting light .
You have to factor in everything, if you have a max plant count , a budgets , etc etc .
Not every setup is right for everyone ,
But there is some good info in the thread .
If I didn’t have a max count , I’d do SOG
And look for somewhere with extra hight ceilings and stack 2 grows where one normally would be .
But I’d probably have 10-12 vs 4 de1000s

I have drawn a few plans, for fun, that features both horizontal and vertical light movers. I think I could get X number of 12 foot tall x 6 wide x 12 long stacked, both plants and lights. That would be fun.
