20-25 watts of what light at which efficiency? there's a reason smart people use ppfd to describe that measurement more exactly...
You are absolutely right. I should have added led, especially strips, running soft, north of 170lm/w.
Especially light coming from as many points as possible.

Don't know. I know when my plants are in the Goldilocks zone though.

Using the PAR calc I basically divided my 1.2m x 0.6m canopy into 3 long strips.
Each is lit by a 4' long strip so there will be some losses. but anyway. The surface area for each 3rd is 0.24m2 and is what is covered with a 115-degree wide beam at 10cm @ 965 PPFD or 70k lux (calculated). Luckily with the light source spread over the trays the hottest part of the light zone is a relatively thin layer.

Hung at 15cm it is about 650PPFD, with some added light from neighboring strips.

If I were to put the strips side by side, I would have to have to hang it higher to cover 3x 0.24m2 surface area.

Bump.

Great grow GML, awesome season.

Seems so far, he proved the worth of the QB550 Vs HPS.

Half the watts, tad better then HPS after wet weigh. What is most important tho, is using half the watts, for the same haul. If your on the fence about QBs, I think this season put everything in perspective.

If you didnt watch this run, you missed a great show.

So, stay tuned for the dry weight in a few weeks,

Sky is the limit with these lights, thats for sure.

Awesome!
There is a yearly cannabis solo cup challenge on this site.
This year it only allowing LED and HID wanted to play.
I'm not asking you to play.
My question is:
Do you think all lighting should be allowed to compete in 2019 or do you think it should be LED only? Yes or NO?

Note: Each person that says LED is equal or better to HID will be asked this question and I will keep a list of those who say yes and those who say no.
What is your opinion.
Yes HID can compete next year or no it should be LED only?

lol, yeah, dude was a bundle of stress, lol.. He did have alot on the line, and such a large area to maintain, dang Ming dynasty,lol..

Hat Tip to Steven and the Panel, too.. Learned alot this season.

Not tuning the PAR in early on, might have hurt the LED early, who knows. Might of been beneficial, we'llll never know, lol...

I think there is only a small handfull of us that followed, but I think it closed the door on light industry,.. If HLG encased the panels, they would crush Mars market and low end blurples.

I think many are turned off by the "bare" look, and Driver sitting out open. Although its easy to build, people are simple, and want outta the box, string up, and run, without the DYI look to it..

Cant wait for next season, lol..

I say Yes,

Light is just a part of the process, and really, its not the top of the list of "Needs" for a fruitfull grow.
At the end of the day, its all about the fun of it, right..?

There are V6 cars, that can kick V8s ass, lol..

I didn't watch the last few episodes. Did he actually yield more on the led side? I thought it would be the other way around. If it was anywhere close...the half the wattage (slightly more actually) seals the deal. Only problem is initial buy in for the led lamps. Like 3 or 4x the price of a hps lamp, reflector,& ballast. Once your over that it makes sense. But I haven't watched the last few vids.

Thanks!

The list will help me avoid asking anyone twice.
The rules for next year will be discussed at some point and I will share the list.

I'm hoping most will say yes.

Indoor growing..if light is isn't at the top then it's just below it with strain selection being top. I don't know but to me ...light is hands down number one in a indoor setup. Lots of factors and in truth most are equally important but light man...thats the big make or break factor for what I am trying to do.

But your on point of the importance of light,

on LED, it seemed he averaged about 6.8lbs wet, and HPS was around 6.4 wet. He cut and hung weighted whole plant.

Of course have to take into account trunk thickness difference, branch ratio, if its different under the LED vs HPS.

But even equal, is still a giant win for HLG/LED.

We'll have to wait for the dry weight before we pop any corks, but to be fair, it isn't like we haven't already seen LED outperform HPS like this. But if the LED wins, it will be nice to have another reference we can offer the unbelievers - though based on past experience, I do fully expect a lot of the HPS boys to just disregard these results because they don't fit their paradigm. But that's okay. If people want to keep spending more than necessary on their electric bill, that's their choice to make.

In the two solo cup comps the two leaders of the pack are LED right now.
No doubt I am impressed as a HID grower.
So what do you say to the question I asked InTheValley.?

Do you think all lighting should be allowed to compete in 2019 solo cup comp or do you think it should be LED only?
If no, why?
what hps gear is gml using vs hlg 550s?.............sorry if mentioned already
Let me ask you also.
I'll only ask regulars and try to only ask once.

Honestly, I don't have any interest in the Solo cup comp. But I do think anyone should be able to use any light they please. That includes LED, HID, fluoros, whatever floats your boat.
